Undergraduate Majors, Minors, Concentrations and Certifications

All completed forms must be submitted to the Academic Advising and Registration Office to finalize requests and update student records. Follow student procedures listed and submit forms to aaro@collegeforcreativestudies.edu. Incomplete forms delay processing and will be returned.

Changing a Major

Schedule a meeting with your Academic Advisor to review your request for a major change. Determine if the change will impact your timeline to graduation and review potential options, credit transfers, or questions to address with the Department Chair. In some cases a student is referred to Financial Aid (changing a major could potentially impact eligibility for federal funding, if approaching the maximum time frame to graduate).

Procedure

  • After meeting with your advisor, contact the major department that you wish to transfer into. (appointment may be required).
  • Download, sign, and complete the student portion of the Major Change form <coming soon>
  • Submit form to the desired Major Department for review and to obtain signature approval. Forward the completed form to the AARO.

Note: New incoming students do not follow this process and should contact the AARO directly for all major change inquiries. Major changes should take place BEFORE the start of a semester to allow time for proper schedule adjustments and/or registration approvals.

Changing a Major Concentration

Undergraduate students enrolled in a Major with concentration options can request to change their concentration within the major (example: Crafts major student changing from Crafts/Glass to Crafts/Ceramics; Entertainment Arts major changing from EA/Animation to EA/Digital Video). Although this is not a major change, students should confirm if credits from the previous concentration will apply to the new concentration. This too can impact your time-frame to graduate.

Procedure

  • Schedule a meeting with the Department Chair of your major.
  • Confirm and understand your course requirements due to the change.
  • Download, sign and complete the student portion of the Major Change Form. <coming soon>
  • Submit the form to the new major department for review and and to obtian department chair signature approval. Forward completed form to the AARO.
  • Follow up with your academic advisor if you have questions about your remain credits or time-frame to graduate.

Note: New incoming students do not follow this process and should contact the AARO directly for all concentration change inquiries. Concentration changes should take place BEFORE the start of a semester to allow time for proper schedule adjustments and/or registration approvals.

Declaring a Major (Undeclared Students)

Undergraduate students can enroll in the “Undeclared Program” for one semester upon admission and are required to select a major before proceeding into the second semester of their studies. Students who do not select a major by the required date will have a hold applied to their account and are not permitted to register.

  • Undeclared students will meet with an Academic Advisor to verify a major selection.
  • After meeting with an Advisor, contact the Major Department that you wish to transfer into (appointment required).
  • Download, sign and complete the student portion of the Major Change Form. <coming soon>
  • Submit the form to the desired Major Department for review and to obtain Department Chair signature approval. Forward completed form to the AARO.

Note: New incoming students are not required to select a major before the start of their first semester, however, students who have come to a decision prior to the start of the semester, should contact an Advisor immediately to allow time for proper schedule adjustments and/or registration approvals.

Studio and Liberal Arts Minors

Minors are not required to graduate, but can support interests and help build additional skills beneficial to portfolio, career paths, and overall personal development.

• Schedule an Advising appointment to review general information about adding a Studio or Liberal Arts minor, discuss minor credits, elective sharing options towards your degree, and review impacts on your time-frame to graduate.
  • Review minor recommendations with a Department Mentor if you are unsure of your path.
  • Once a minor is added to your BFA program, you must satisfy all requirements to graduate, however, you may choose to remove the minor at any time if you wish to complete your program without the minor.
  • Students can add more than one minor to their program, if desired.

Procedure

To add a Studio Minor

  • Download, sign and complete the student portion of the Studio Minor Form.
  • Submit form to the Department of the Minor for review and to obtain Department Chair signature approval (appointment may be required). Forward completed form to the AARO.

To add a Liberal Arts Minor

  • Download, sign, and complete the Liberal Arts Minor Form (student signature required).
  • Forward the completed form to the AARO.

To remove a Studio or Liberal Arts Minor

  • Download, sign, and complete the applicable Studio Minor Form or Liberal Arts Minor Form and select “remove minor“.
  • Student signature Required! (No signature required from the Department Chair). Forward the completed form to the AARO.

Note: New incoming students will have the opportunity to add a minor AFTER the start of the first semester (contact an Advisor with questions). The standard procedure applies to all students for adding a minor.
