Students in this course are exposed to advanced concepts and practices of business leadership. The focus will be on translating the knowledge of leadership into sound practices that support artists or designers and the creative work they pursue. The course examines such topics as: leadership styles; contingency leadership; the artist/designer as a leader; psychodynamic leadership; business transformation; leadership ethics; the artist/designer in business. The primary concepts in this course will include leadership theories and team-building practices to create an understanding for how to integrate the artist/designer into the creative marketplace. Students will complete a leadership portfolio and team-building project. The course culminates the sequence of study begun in DAS 213, Business Practices, and prepares students to embark on their careers in a range of creative endeavors after graduation. This course may be used for liberal arts or general elective credit.
