Current undergraduate students interested in Art Education should contact the Art Education Department Chair to review the Teacher Certification program expectations.
- A request to complete this program along with an undergraduate major is considered a “program change”. This is not the same as adding a minor.
- Pursuing the Teacher Certification while attempting your BFA changes your curriculum requirements and extends the standard 4 year curriculum to 4 ½ years among other credit adjustments per semester.
It is recommended that BFA students complete the Teacher Certification during their undergraduate studies to maintain eligibility for federal funding.
Students should request the program change as early as possible to follow the recommended course outline for graduation.
Students can request to remove the program, if they no longer have an interest to obtain the Art Education certification. Keep in mind that the major program will revert back to the original listed curriculum and some credits that were not required during the change to Art Education, will now need to be satisfied.
Important! Students who plan to remove Art Education from their undergraduate program, but wish to attempt completion of the certification as a post degree student should first:
- Verify potential costs with their Financial Aid counselor before removing the program.
- Meet with an Academic Advisor to review potential outstanding credits that may be required and/or impact the ability to graduate at the desired time.
