Educational Assistance

CCS has a formal program of educational assistance to encourage all full-time employees to develop their potential through continued education. College courses and degree programs must meet job-related criteria. Approval will be given to courses which, in the opinion of management, would benefit the employee’s performance and development at CCS. The educational institution must be accredited in the programs that are being taken.

The Department of Art Education seeks a colleague to enhance and advance the department’s record of innovation, someone with administrative and leadership experience, committed to playing an active role in supporting innovative art and design education in urban public schools and arts education initiatives throughout the Detroit area, and the state.

   We are seeking a visionary and collaborative art educator to teach courses in art education, collaborate with the regional art education community, design and supervise field placements in schools, advise and inspire students, serve on department and university committees, as well as establish and maintain a strong program of ongoing, peer reviewed research and scholarship. One of the important expectations is to become an ambassador and lead collaborative efforts with public schools and enhance the relationship with the department and the community. CCS offers a K-12 Visual Arts Teacher Certification Program for undergraduate BFA students, a Post Baccalaureate Program for professionals who wish to earn teaching certification, and a 30-credit low residency MA degree.

The Marketing Communications Specialist for Admissions curates, coordinates, writes, and produces digital content to advance the College for Creative Studies brand and reputation as part of its recruitment strategy. The position requires skills in marketing, email content creation, strategic communication, market segmentation, copywriting, image management, and customer service in order to foster meaningful messaging between the College and prospective students, maximizing their likelihood to enroll at the College for Creative Studies. Superior content strategy and writing abilities are required. This position is responsible for not only creating high-quality content, but also curating and sharing excellent content being developed across the College. The Marketing Communications Specialist will be expected to become proficient in university admission information and processes, and will collaborate with a cross-disciplinary team (admissions, marketing and communication, financial aid, academic advising and registration, international student services, student affairs, and academic affairs) to promote the Undergraduate, Graduate, Dual Enrollment, and Precollege programs. The Admission Marketing Specialist is empowered to inform, assist, and most importantly, to inspire creative prospective students and their families via strategic content development, brand story sharing, and direct customer service activities. The CCS/CD department is a collaborative team of educators looking for candidates that can bring excellence in design education, teaching at all levels of our BFA communication design program, while also maintaining a theoretical and/or professional design practice.

CCS is located in the city of Detroit, and as such the department has established diverse community/industry partnerships within the metro area. Through these partnerships, we have embedded in our curriculum, experiential learning opportunities that encourage student engagement in client-based projects that often support interdisciplinary classes with other departments within the college. These experiences help students recognize the diverse cultures, complex contexts, and social impact design has in industry, community building, and thought leadership.

The Vice President of Finance reports directly to the President and serves as a key member of the College’s leadership team to provide collaborative financial management leadership for the College, ensures the short and long-term fiscal health of the College, oversees the business practices of the College, and ensures the budget supports the strategic and operational plans. The Vice President of Finance acts as an agent of change in leading, and assisting with the development of and effectively managing the financial systems of the institution, including financial, accounting, budget management, cost modelling, regulatory and legal to ensure sustainability of the College.  This position works with other senior leaders in supporting them toward accomplishing objectives for organizational success.   The Vice President of Finance also serves on the 403(b) Oversight Committee and the Argonaut Condominium Association Board

The Registration Specialist reports to the Registrar and Director of Academic Advising.  This position is responsible for academic processes directed by the Registrar related to the academic records of students.  Data entry includes, but not limited to, Grade changes, Incompletes, Minor declarations, Change of Majors, Audits, and transfer credits.  Also responsible for end of the semester processing of probation and suspension.  In addition, the individual will provide advising support under the supervision of the Director of Academic Advising.

The Registration Specialist is expected to maintain a professional environment that promotes accuracy, efficiency, and strive continuously for professional excellence within our advising and registration team.

Position Title: Program Chair for MA/MFA User Experience (UX) Design posted on January 25, 2022

CCS Detroit is seeking a dynamic, energetic, and experienced individual to lead the re-envisioned MFA User Experience Design program and new MA User Experience Design program, commencing in Fall 2022.

The Department Chair is a faculty member, administrator, and leader.  The successful candidate will demonstrate high levels of creativity, with in-depth knowledge of design, user-experience research, user interface (UI) design, human factors, coding, prototyping, and new and emerging technology, including artificial intelligence (AI) and extended reality (XR).

They will have professional experience and be capable of preparing the students for employment or as independent creative practitioners and consultants. They will be an experienced teacher and be able to oversee and deliver an exceptional student learning experience at the graduate level that fosters independent inquiry.

Based in the heart of Detroit, CCS is a global leader in art and design education, with world class technical facilities, studio spaces and faculty. Detroit is the USA’s only UNESCO City of Design and is currently experiencing an extraordinary transformation and revival. Many artists and makers have relocated to the city in recent years and now is a very exciting time for an ambitious designer to move here and advance their academic career and creative practice. CCS has an exceptional record of industry and community partnership through live projects. The College has strong ties with the automotive industry and UX for mobility will feature in the curriculum.



Operating at the intersection of creative practice and technology, UX Design is a quintessentially interdisciplinary program. Students will situate their creative practice in the arena of new and emerging technologies, contributing to the field by advancing new frontiers for art and design. UX Design is key to CCS developing stronger cross-disciplinary collaborations in areas such as artificial intelligence, informatics, human-machine interactions, machine autonomy, and autonomous mobility.

There is increasing industry demand for designers who can code and build both physical and digital experiences. Students will learn how to sketch, hack, tinker and prototype with hardware and software. They will create practical and critical experiences and technologically mediated interactions for humans with objects, spaces, and interfaces.

With studio projects grounded in experimental, speculative, applied and systems-based design, the Master of Arts (MA) and Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in User Experience Design will prepare students for the increasingly interdisciplinary mode of work and collaboration in the 21st century.

The program is intended for designers, artists, and architects, as well as engineers, planners, computer scientists, technologists, and systems thinkers with a creative flare. Whether working with hardware or software, in virtual or physical realms, students will always be guided by creativity and critical practice.

CCS offers an established 60 credit terminal MFA degree and a new 30 credit initial MA degree. Students may take either program in full- or part-time mode.
