Position: Student Engagement & Belonging Assistant (SAB)

Student Engagement & Belonging Assistants (SEBA) serve on the Student Activities Board (SAB) to promote inclusive community engagement among CCS students through fun, educational, and innovative events. They also serve as advocates of student resources and a bridge between students & their available resources. SEBAs play an essential role in building a campus community that promotes a sense of belonging & connection. SEBAs are energetic student leaders who are ready and willing to bring students together.
Duties and Responsibilities:– Serve as Committee Members and support the Student Engagement & Belonging Consultants to help plan, coordinate, & execute events and activities that engage the CCS campus community throughout the school year.
– Capitalize on mentorship opportunities with Student Engagement & Belonging Consultants to enhance event planning and community building skills.
– Help with all designated large-scale, all-hands-on-deck SAB events.
– Examples of events include:
– Traditional (such as Century Ball & WatsonCon)
– Belonging (such as Hispanic Heritage Month, Lunar New Year, Holi Celebration)
– Recreation (such as Field Day & Bowling)
– Entertainment (such as End of the Year Celebration)
– Community Engagement (such as Halloweek)
– Off-campus Trips (such as Detroit Broadway & Red Wings)
– Student Affairs (Orientation, Winter + Spring Commencement, Welcome Week)
– Market & promote events to the entire CCS community at least 2 weeks in advance via flyers, Weekly Email, social media, Peacock Pride, and campus tabling.
– Traverse between the Ford and Taubman Campuses in order to Flyer for events weekly during office hours.
– Collaborate with Resident Assistants, Wellness Peer Educators, International Ambassadors, Student Organizations, and other campus departments to put on joint programming throughout each semester.
– Gather feedback and assess the needs of the student body in order to plan events that are relevant to students.
– Plan and execute Welcome Week events. This will require work throughout the month of August — see below for more details.
– Hold at least 5 (but no more than 10) set office hours weekly to plan events, assist the Office of Student Engagement & Belonging, and help with additional Student Affairs team needs.
– Participate in the weekly Student Activities Board Meetings on Fridays at 11:30am in the Yamasaki Basement (A010). Absence from more than 2 meetings in a semester will result in establishing a success plan and review of position responsibilities with the AD of SE+B.
– Attend a biweekly 1:1 meeting with the Assistant Director of Student Engagement & Belonging.
– Work as a team to support each SAB member. You are expected to provide support with one another’s events, as needed.
– Plan and execute Welcome Week events. This will require work throughout the month of August — see below for more details.
– Work as an Orientation Leader during winter New Student Orientation.
– Provide support during the winter & spring Commencement ceremonies.
– Participate in training and professional development sessions for the Student Activities Board.
– Maintain consistent communication with the Assistant Director of Student Engagement & Belonging and the Student Activities Board members.
– Complete a semesterly self-evaluation & evaluation discussion with supervisor.
– Assist with additional duties as assigned by the Student Affairs Leadership Team.
– Exhibits good problem-solving skills. Anticipates potential issues and is able to address issues as they arise.
– Good communicator. Communicates with the Assistant Director of Student Engagement & Belonging and fellow team members in a timely manner.
– Organized & proactive. Demonstrates the ability to stay on top of deadlines and responsibilities while balancing school and life commitments.
– Collaborative & team-oriented. Works with team members and campus partners to achieve goals and successfully execute events.
– Creative & innovative. Continually seeks new ways to engage the campus community and creatively markets the SAB activities.
– Eager to learn and participate in ongoing development.
– Energized & positive attitude.
– Availability to work 5-10 hours per week, including some evening & weekend hours.
The Student Engagement & Belonging Assistant position is active from mid-August through the middle of May. It requires a minimum of 5 hours per week (1-hour meeting with Avery, 1-hour SAB meeting, and 3 office hours). However, the total weekly time commitment will be based on the workload necessary to plan & execute the events and support the Student Affairs team. SEBAs may occasionally work upwards of 10-15* hours in a week depending on that week’s workload.
*Note: If a student has another work-study position, they may not work more than a combined 20 hours between the work-study positions. It is the responsibility of the student to communicate their hour needs and restrictions with all supervisors.
Student Engagement & Belonging Assistants are considered to serve at will and can be released from the position at any time for reasons deemed appropriate by the Student Affairs Leadership Team. You are expected to successfully complete all areas of your position.

– Friday, January 8, 2027: Winter New Student Orientation
