Canvas Minimum Usage Requirements

It is expected that all faculty utilize the college’s Learning Management System (Canvas.) It is imperative that courses provide a level of consistency for our students regardless of learning modality. The following outlines these expectations.  

In-Person (LEC/STU)

Within the Lecture/Studio formats, all faculty must utilize the Learning Management System (Canvas) to record attendance, record and post grades, post relevant class materials (lecture/discussion recaps, reminders, announcements, etc.) throughout the semester. Additionally, course modules should contain an overview of each class’s topics in advance in order to give students a better understanding of what to expect during that session. 

Hybrid (HYB)

Within the Hybrid course format, all faculty must utilize the Learning Management System (Canvas) to  record attendance, record and post grades, post relevant class materials (lecture/discussion recaps, reminders, announcements, etc.) throughout the semester. Additionally, course modules must contain asynchronous course content to account for appropriate contact hours for each week. Each module must contain Title, Overview, Objectives, Assessments, Activities, Resources.

Online Hybrid (ONHY)

Within the Online Hybrid course format, all faculty must utilize the Learning Management System (Canvas) to  record attendance, record and post grades, post relevant class materials (lecture/discussion recaps, reminders, announcements, etc.) throughout the semester. Additionally, course modules must contain asynchronous course content to account for appropriate contact hours for each week. Each module must contain Title, Overview, Objectives, Assessments, Activities, Resources.

Asynchronous Courses (ONLL)

Within the Asynchronous course format, all faculty must utilize the Learning Management System (Canvas) to  record attendance, record and post grades, post relevant class materials (lecture/discussion recaps, reminders, announcements, etc.) throughout the semester. Additionally, course modules must contain asynchronous course content to account for appropriate contact hours for each week. Each module must contain Title, Overview, Objectives, Assessments, Activities, Resources. AND incorporate appropriate levels of regular and substantive interaction (see Regular and Substantive Interaction Guidelines.)  

Synchronous Courses (ONLS)

Within the Synchronous course format, all faculty must utilize the Learning Management System (Canvas) to  record attendance, record and post grades, post relevant class materials (lecture/discussion recaps, reminders, announcements, etc.) throughout the semester. Additionally, course modules must contain asynchronous course content to account for appropriate contact hours for each week. Each module must contain Title, Overview, Objectives, Assessments, Activities, Resources. AND incorporate appropriate levels of regular and substantive interaction (see Regular and Substantive Interaction Guidelines.)
