This is the first of two required studio courses,on the MA and MFA Interdisciplinary Design and,Media programs. This course foregrounds design,futures: a process of strategic foresight using,design as a lens into future scenarios. Using,design research and design thinking principles,,the course equips designers with the knowledge and,skills to navigate complex challenges across the,arts and sciences.,,The course is also offered as an elective, and,welcomes collaborative students from outside the,program, and, where appropriate, the college.

Prerequisites:

This studio course explores the intersection of,design, media, technology, and science. Students,gain practical skills in research, design,thinking, and problem-solving in order to navigate,complex themes and wicked problems that extend,across multiple boundaries of practice. This is a,required course for students in the MA and MFA,Interdisciplinary Design and Media programs. The,course is also offered as an elective, and,welcomes collaborative students from outside of,the program, and, if appropriate, the college.

This course critically challenges students to,research and develop various methods of producing,media using technical toolset in video, animation,,3D modeling, interactive design as well as other,virtual/digital production techniques.,Students focus on the core multimedia principles,of Discovery, Ingesting, Digesting, Manipulation,,and Exposing. Through research and technical,exploration various forms of media creation and,manipulation are dissected with a directive to,build an end use case scenario that highlights the,strengths of a given media format. Students,expose their creations to users in both,interactive and passive exhibitions.

Prerequisites:

Intermedia practice entails the convergence of,technological and multimedia exploration across a,range of hardware outputs and installation types.,This course critically challenges students to,research and develop one major (or multiple,smaller) project/s, experimenting with technical,toolsets in video, animation, 3D modeling,,interactive design as well as other,virtual/digital production techniques. The course,build’s on the concepts addressed in the GIDXXX,Multimedia Communication course. As part of their,intermedia practice, students employ the core,multimedia principles of Discovery, Ingesting,,Digesting, Manipulation, and Exposing. Through,research and technical application students will,self direct the conceptualization and production,or multimedia projects.
