Description of Change

College leadership would like to reduce the cost to audit a class. Currently, students are being charged full tuition and fees to audit and this revision reduces the cost to $150 per credit hour ($450 for a three credit class).

Policy Statement

Class Audit Policy

Students, alumni and guest students may audit a class on a space-available basis. No academic credit is awarded for audited courses. Those wishing to audit a course may register by adhering to the policy and following the procedures and guidelines listed below:

Matriculating (B.F.A.) and Non-matriculating (e.g., alumni, guest ) students who wish to audit a class must elect to do so at the time of registration by submitting a completed Audit Registration Form, available in the Academic Advising and Registration Office.
Students electing to audit a class may not register for that class until the first week of class for the semester. Students may not register for a class after the first week of any semester.
Once the election has been made to audit a class, the student may not change the registration to receive credit for the class.
Audited courses carry no credit and do not satisfy degree requirements. Upon completion of the course, the audit grade of X will appear on the student’s transcript. (The grade of X is not used in the calculation of cumulative grade point average or course completion rate.)
Matriculating (B.F.A.) students are permitted to audit one course each semester during their B.F.A. tenure at CCS, with a staff advisor’s approval.
Non-matriculating students (alumni, guest) are limited to three classes per semester.
Enrollment is on a space available basis
Non-Matriculating (Guest/Auditing) students will be issued a Student ID and will have access to the CCS parking structures and the CCS library.
Financial aid is not available to Non-Matriculating (Guest/Auditing) students.
Student Services such as Academic Advising, Office of Partnerships,, Counseling, and/ or any employer recruiting events are not available to Non-Matriculating (Guest/Auditing) students.

A Guest Student auditing a course may be dropped from the course if:
A CCS Degree student requires enrollment in a closed course to meet program requirements.
Campus Policies, Classroom Policies or Code of Conduct Violations occur.

Cost to Audit a Class
Students do not receive credit or a grade for audited courses; therefore, they are billed at a lower per-credit hour rate $150 per credit hour ($450 for a three-credit class).

All enrolled courses, including audited courses, are billed at the current undergraduate or graduate tuition rate. The Academic Advising and Registration Office will notify the Business Services Office of all students auditing a course for the semester. The Business Services Office will apply the Class Audit Voucher to the students account, reducing the audited course cost to $150.00 per credit hour or $450.00 for a 3-credit course.

The refund policy for audited courses and courses taken for credit is the same and is outlined in the College’s Tuition Withdrawal and Refund Policy.
