This is a Update/Change to Policy

Existing Policy URL: https://campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu/policy/academic-probation-and-suspension-undergraduate-students/

Description of Change

1.) Outlines probation/suspension exceptions (recommended to minimize barriers of continuation for students making good/improved progress, but fall short of the cumulative GPA requirement); allows students to maintain registration of courses and not loose seats; provide students the opportunity to continue with their studies under “continued probation guidelines” upon end of semester probation/suspension processing by the Registrar Office.
2.) Outlines restrictions that apply to suspended students
3.) Allow exceptions to credit loads for international students
5.) Outlines confirmation of Financial Aid status required before continuing/registration, as aid may be restricted or suspended due to “continued probation”.
6.) Outlines readmission deadlines for Fall/Winter semesters. Clarifies APC timing of reviews to better inform students.
7.) Updated Art Education section (confirmed with A.Ruopp/N. Ashton in prior google draft)
8.) Outline suspension indefinitely/dismissal, not currently listed in policy.
9.) updated Table of Contents order to match process and changes

Policy Statement

n/a – this is not a new policy

Reason for Policy

change reasons:
1) Aid in supporting students who struggle first semester (generally) and IMPROVE by the 2nd semester; allow continued academic probation (for students who meet certain criteria) and require appeal process for those students who have not. Example, students who achieve 67% completion of attempted credits AND make a 2.0 semester GPA would be granted “continued academic probation” for one semester, (exp. successfully completes 9.0 of 12.0 credits and obtains a “C” average for the semester) would not be required to go to the APC and submit readmission application, or pay fees, but allowed to continue upon financial aid review/confirmation (see details in policy draft). Also prevents wait period of extra semesters for APC review for likely approved students. SAMPLES from other institutions, UofM, CalArts and Hope College that provide more than one probation semester before suspension.
2.) Outlines restrictions that apply to suspended students. We do not currently have restrictions isted and some students have been confused on what suspension means for their campus access.
3.) International students on probation cannot risk dropping a course (falling below full-time) and the ISSO office has asked they be allowed to maintain 15.0 credits max, with guidance from their ISSO counselor/advisor.
5.) The Financial Aid Office has confirmed students are not guarnteed aid after they are suspended, or placed on continued probation (even if approved by the APC). Because of this, will require any student on continued probation or readmitted on continued probation to confirm their aid eligibility (by Fin.Aid signed form) before completing registration or if already registered, to maintain registration. This note has been added to the policy as well.
6.) APC cannot review students suspended immediately and the likely timeframe has been indicated in the policy to provide clarification of when actual readmission reviews will take place for suspended students; clarifying for students and advisors/staff assisting students.
7.) clarified steps/details for students receiving C- or lower in Art ED. (confirmed with A.Ruopp/N. Ashton in prior google draft)
8.) clarify indefinite suspension after an APPEAL by APC is approved and requirements are not met.
9.) updated Table of Contents order to match process and changes
