Accompanying ADA companions for Faculty Led Study Abroad programs are not enrolled as full participants in the program, are not considered in any way to be affiliated with the program or representatives of CCS. Accordingly, the following issues must be considered prior to the program:
Program Restrictions:
Although ADA companions are not participants in the program, they are expected to abide by the program policies and restrictions that are imposed for safety and liability reasons. ADA companions should be aware that their personal behavior must not in any way affect the quality of the program or the experience of the participants and that their involvement in group activities may be prohibited by CCS or on-site provider if deemed necessary.
Fees and Expenses:
ADA companions are responsible for paying all program fees and expenses incurred both for CCS and overseas according to conditions prearranged by the Global Services office. If an ADA companion attends a class or excursion with the program participants, they must pay any fees or expenses involved. ADA companions will not be charged tuition as they are not enrolled in the courses for credit.
Program Related Duties:
ADA companions may not have any official duties (chaperone, driver, assistant, etc.). ADA companions are not protected by CCS liability insurance for any actions taken abroad and are urged to discuss applicable liability protection with an insurance agent to ensure that adequate coverage is in place for their overseas activities.
Insurance and Liability:
ADA companions must have their own medical insurance coverage for the period of the program if not provided by the facilitating external organization (eg. Education First). If this is the case, CCS recommends the use of Geo Blue Worldwide Insurance.
ADA companions will be required to complete the same Risk and Release document that student participants are required to complete prior to trip departure.
