Supervisor Evaluation – Vince Carducci

It is the College’s goal to annually evaluate the performance of each employee. The purpose of the evaluation process is to provide an opportunity for the supervisor and employee to review the prior year’s work performance. This process should include conversations related to the strengths and weaknesses in your employee’s performance, the development of future objectives, and your support and encouragement in assisting them to reach their full potential. The evaluation process helps to promote better communication between you and your employee, allows your employee input, and enables attention to be focused on job performance standards.  As you communicate the performance appraisal, your employee needs to understand performance expectations and your employee should be provided the opportunity to respond and discuss any issues that may arise.  Feedback concerning job satisfaction, career goals, and position responsibility are encouraged during the appraisal and throughout the year.

Quality of WorkLEADING (5)

As this was my first year as a professor, I threw myself into the role with 100% commitment and determination. This was reflected in my near constant availability for students, my accepting of additional work as it became available, and using my own initiative to produce unique educational content.

DependabilityLEADING (5)

I pride myself on being dependable and trustworthy. I am always among the first to complete important tasks, and I continuously remind my colleagues that if anything is falling off the table, I would be happy to pick up the slack. We are a team and I thoroughly enjoy being a linchpin of said team.

Job KnowledgeLEADING (5)

15+ years in the industry has afforded me a great deal of job knowledge, but I am not resting on those laurels. I continue to learn and broaden my skill base (e.g. Speedform training over the summer) for the benefit of our students and their ever-evolving needs.

Interactive/Effective CommunicationLEADING (5)

I am a passionate person with strong opinions, but I am mature enough to listen, and engage in healthy debate where appropriate, both with work colleagues and students. I value the perspective of others to help keep me centered on an ideal path.

Emotional IntelligenceSTRENGTH (4)

This is an area I am gaining strength in all the time. The more experience I have interacting with students, the better my understanding of how they respond to frank, open discussion, and can tune my approach accordingly. The same holds true with work colleagues both in and outside the department.

Management AbilityLEADING (5)

I take the responsibility of being a leader very seriously, both in the department and in the classroom. When I am given a key responsibility, I see part of my task as limiting the stress and workload of my department chair by accepting said responsibility.

TeamworkLEADING (5)

Our team is a well balanced one, and I am keenly aware that nothing gets done without all of us working together and pulling in the same direction. My conduct in the office reflects this awareness.

AgilityLEADING (5)

There have been instances where I am called upon to be flexible with time, which I accepted readily because I know last minute changes are always possible. When my chair suggests adjustments in class technique, I respond quickly and effectively.

Goals

    1. Over the course of the next semester, continue striving for a balance of constructive criticism and positive encouragement — a balance that gets the optimum results from our students.
    1. Strive to make sure every minute of class time is used as effectively as possible, thus maximizing the work time available to students outside of class.
    1. During this semester, continue to engage students in the car design industry through department Facebook and LinkedIn posts, yielding a more well-informed student body.
    1. Keep myself fully engaged in the emerging trends of the industry by writing, analyzing and contributing online content — both for CCS and other media outlets.

Accomplishments

    1. Successfully taught 16 high school students in the Dunning Fellows summer course. In 3 weeks, with the aid of key staff, I guided these students to a clay model presentation with industry reps.
    1. At the direction of the Department Chair, successfully rewrote course descriptions and learning outcomes for the school catalog.
    1. Successfully oversaw the awarding of several scholarships for CCS students and coordinated efforts for a Ford Scholarship held outside the college.
    1. Traveled to Geneva and MoMA on behalf of CCS, generating video content upon my return to share the educational value of experience with the student body.

Comments

As the need for new skills and knowledge emerges, keep me abreast of these needs so I can take steps to train myself and keep pace with said needs. Continued communication about my dept. role now and in the future, and what I can do to ensure I am always a viable, contributing team member.
