Supervisor Evaluation – Vince Carducci

It is the College’s goal to annually evaluate the performance of each employee. The purpose of the evaluation process is to provide an opportunity for the supervisor and employee to review the prior year’s work performance. This process should include conversations related to the strengths and weaknesses in your employee’s performance, the development of future objectives, and your support and encouragement in assisting them to reach their full potential. The evaluation process helps to promote better communication between you and your employee, allows your employee input, and enables attention to be focused on job performance standards.  As you communicate the performance appraisal, your employee needs to understand performance expectations and your employee should be provided the opportunity to respond and discuss any issues that may arise.  Feedback concerning job satisfaction, career goals, and position responsibility are encouraged during the appraisal and throughout the year.

Employee: Steven Kuypers Job Title: Department Technician Department: Fine Arts Supervisor Email: vjenkins@collegeforcreativestudies.edu Review Date: August 19, 2019

Quality of WorkSTRENGTH (4)

I work hard to find quality, cost effective solutions to the department’s needs. I research options offered by companies, check classifieds and surplus stores and fabricate from scratch the improvements to our studios to make our departments facilities some of the best in the country.

DependabilitySTRENGTH (4)

My flexible schedule allows the opportunity to tackle problems as soon as they come up. If a faculty member is having trouble with a piece of equipment they can call on me to address the problem right then to help keep the class on track.

Job KnowledgeSTRENGTH (4)

After doing this job for a few years, I feel that I am understanding better where to focus my time and energy. Some problems require quick, effective, but temporary fixes while others may require more thought and time to make lasting, elegant solutions. Finding this balance is an ongoing process.

Interactive/Effective CommunicationSTRENGTH (4)

I helped to coordinate with faculty, facilities and outside contractors to create the ideal plan for the new sculpture expansion. I took an intermediary role in this process making sure the faculty’s needs for the space were properly addressed and the contractors questions were answered promptly.

Emotional IntelligenceDEMONSTRATING (3)

I feel I have good interpersonal relationships with staff and faculty. I do feel like students find it hard to approach me with questions or concerns. I would like to tweak my conduct/image in an effort to project that I am accessible to students and available for advice or assistance.

Management AbilityLEADING (5)

TeamworkDEMONSTRATING (3)

I feel that I work well with our faculty and the relevant support staff to help make our classes successful. I feel there is some space for improvement with all faculty and students to make sure our safety and environmental protocols are being adhered to. Better communication of policies may help.

AgilitySTRENGTH (4)

Quick assessments after the planning meetings for the sculpture space often required finding optional solutions to potential constraints. This required drawing on previous experiences and conducting quick research into products & process to help evaluate the value added to the project proposal.

Goals

    1. Get sculpture squared away for the beginning of the year. Use the limited space as a chance to refine the procedures associated with storage and some of the messiest processes.
    1. I would like to open up the electronics workshop to other departments and setup some basic projects students can accomplish if they don’t know where to start.
    1. Work with instructors to create a workshop schedule for departmental tools and technologies that fit within the scheduled class time. Make additional training available if requested.
    1. Compile a list of department assets that consolidate everything our students have access to, in one place along with the resources needed to utilize them.

Accomplishments

    1. Final approval of sculpture improvements to be implemented this year.
    1. The start of a weekly electronics workshop providing fine art students access to basic electronics and tutoring to help provide interactivity, lighting, kinetics and data to their work.
    1. Setting up work space, providing materials and instruction for painting students to create custom, quality canvases better suited for their work, while helping to build a valuable skill.
    1. Conducting workshops for crafts students on fine art equipment. I hope more of these exchanges will take place in the future for the mutual benefit of the students in both of these programs.

Comments

I will be looking for some flexibility as I work toward earning my MFA. Encourage prompt communication and scheduling of tasks so that I may work my studies around the department’s needs.
