Supervisor Evaluation – Vince Carducci

It is the College’s goal to annually evaluate the performance of each employee. The purpose of the evaluation process is to provide an opportunity for the supervisor and employee to review the prior year’s work performance. This process should include conversations related to the strengths and weaknesses in your employee’s performance, the development of future objectives, and your support and encouragement in assisting them to reach their full potential. The evaluation process helps to promote better communication between you and your employee, allows your employee input, and enables attention to be focused on job performance standards.  As you communicate the performance appraisal, your employee needs to understand performance expectations and your employee should be provided the opportunity to respond and discuss any issues that may arise.  Feedback concerning job satisfaction, career goals, and position responsibility are encouraged during the appraisal and throughout the year.

I have developed new course content as opportunities have arisen. Three classes currently assigned to me (Film Noir; Experimental Film; and East Asian Film) were conceived of and developed by me entirely. And I have put my personal stamp on two others (Visual Culture; and Poetry Writing Workshop).

I am always on time when it comes to meeting work deadlines, and have virtually never been absent in the nine years of my employment at CCS. I am consistently supportive of my colleagues, both intellectually and inter-personally.

I never stop researching the fields that I have been assigned to teach — this includes keeping abreast of theoretical literature, and of contemporary expressions in visual, literary and film culture. And I am currently preparing my twelfth collection of poetry for publication in the coming year.

As a 40-year veteran of the teaching profession, I consider it a key responsibility to maintain intellectual currency and the freshness of my pedagogical approach. I try to be continually vigilant when it comes to my agility, with a promise to myself to quit when this work becomes a routine.

Goals

    1. To develop new course materials as needed by the department.
    1. To update and rennovate my current class contents as needed by the students and developments in the culture at large.
    1. To never stop investigating the fields of my courses’ focus, and never stop questioning my creative and intellectual suppositions. In my opinion, teaching should never become a rote habit.
    1. To become more aware of and sensitive to the evolving needs of the students in my classes.

Accomplishments

    1. In Winter 2019, I offered a new class, East Asian Film, which successfully registered a maximum of 25 students. Most important was the students’ intense engagement with the course materials.
    1. In Winter 2019, my Poetry Writing Workshop registered an amazing 18 participants, of which 16 were female students. I was happy to bridge our differences in age and gender with flying colors. with
    1. I recently put the finishing touches on the manuscript of a new collection of my poetry, due out in 2020 from Trinosophes, Detroit, an adventurous publisher of music recordings and literary works.
    1. This summer, I lived for one month in Paris, where I was able to regain almost perfect fluency in speaking and reading French.

Since I consider it my own responsibility to build and maintain skill foundations, and to expand them whenever possible, I would simply ask for your continuing excellent support of my efforts to enliven and enrich my classes, and to remain open to suggestions for possible new course content.
