Supervisor Evaluation – Nadine Ashton

It is the College’s goal to annually evaluate the performance of each employee. The purpose of the evaluation process is to provide an opportunity for the supervisor and employee to review the prior year’s work performance. This process should include conversations related to the strengths and weaknesses in your employee’s performance, the development of future objectives, and your support and encouragement in assisting them to reach their full potential. The evaluation process helps to promote better communication between you and your employee, allows your employee input, and enables attention to be focused on job performance standards.  As you communicate the performance appraisal, your employee needs to understand performance expectations and your employee should be provided the opportunity to respond and discuss any issues that may arise.  Feedback concerning job satisfaction, career goals, and position responsibility are encouraged during the appraisal and throughout the year.

Score Comment
Quality of Work LEADING (5)

I fulfilled 39 article requests, 34 bibliographic sessions with 581 students out of a total 36 sessions with 607 students. I maintain theme related displays and expanded fashion, photography, transportation design, children’s illustration and pop-up collections.

Dependability LEADING (5)

I adjust my hours to accommodate class visits and any other job related responsibilities that occur. I sorted, cataloged, and processed a paper doll collection as a request from Greg Luka.

Job Knowledge LEADING (5)

I multitask job duties covering reference questions and the circulation desk when necessary. I know the collection and can efficiently decide which materials to purchase. I routinely perform original cataloging and often create records that are not available in any other catalog.

Interactive/Effective Communication LEADING (5)

Worked together with library staff to weed out materials and organize the library in anticipation of Becca’s arrival. Included Amy Lazet on bibliographic instruction that could benefit from Luna instruction.

Emotional Intelligence STRENGTH (4)

I make a conscious effort to get along with all library staff, students and the CCS community as a whole.

Management Ability LEADING (5)

All staff work together to provide the best service possible to the CCS community. We routinely try out different methods to increase our exposure on campus. We share our strengths & expertise in order to advance the library objectives and ensure that the library runs efficiently and productively.

Teamwork STRENGTH (4)

Robert and I cover all evening and weekend hours together. We also share bibliographic instruction (sometimes with Amy Lazet) to offer the best resources for each class visit. We all take pride in the library and constantly strive to make it a welcoming environment for the entire CCS community.

Agility LEADING (5)

We often have little advance notice of classes coming into the library for assistance. I routinely prepare for each visit by gathering materials and performing research strategies to maximize the time allotted for the instruction.

Goals

    1. Design and present a PowerPoint presentation for new International students listing fun facts about Detroit.
    1. Design and present a presentation about fake news/misinformation at the International BOBCATSSS conference in Paris, January 21-24, 2020. I would also like to publish an article about this topic.
    1. Research Open Source patforms that could possibly be incorporated into our database webpage expanding the resources we deliver to the CCS community.
    1. Organzie and present another literacy program for incarcerated individuals at the Thumb Correctional Facility in Lapeer.

Accomplishments

    1. Expanded the graphic novels collection by purchasing missing volumes and reorganizing the catalog records to list the volumes numerically under one master record for each series.
    1. Cataloged and processed a unique 180 volume paper doll collection for Greg Luca.
    1. Organized, weeded, and shifted the T-Z sections of the collection. These sections are quite large encompassing transportation, photography, crafts, military, boats/ships and typography.
    1. Initiated and completed a literacy program for underage prisoners at Thumb Correctional Facility in Lapeer Michigan. We met bi-weekly and discussed all 7 Harry Potter books in 6 months.

Comments

I could use some technology training, particularly in Adobe programs. I would also like to conduct extensive research in open source platforms and fake news/misinformation. I believe my increased knowledge in both topics would benefit CCS students in my bibliographic instruction sessions.
