Supervisor Evaluation – Michelle Perron

It is the College’s goal to annually evaluate the performance of each employee. The purpose of the evaluation process is to provide an opportunity for the supervisor and employee to review the prior year’s work performance. This process should include conversations related to the strengths and weaknesses in your employee’s performance, the development of future objectives, and your support and encouragement in assisting them to reach their full potential. The evaluation process helps to promote better communication between you and your employee, allows your employee input, and enables attention to be focused on job performance standards.  As you communicate the performance appraisal, your employee needs to understand performance expectations and your employee should be provided the opportunity to respond and discuss any issues that may arise.  Feedback concerning job satisfaction, career goals, and position responsibility are encouraged during the appraisal and throughout the year.

Employee: Christina deRoos Job Title: Director Department: Kresge Arts in Detroit Supervisor Email: mperron@collegeforcreativestudies.edu Review Date: August 13, 2019
Score Comment
Quality of WorkLEADING (5)

In addition to leading Kresge Arts in Detroit to design and deliver new and/or improved events and exhibitions this year (the Freep Film Festival screening and “Parallel Visions” exhibition as two examples, I have also participated in CCS committees, including chairing DE&I.

DependabilityLEADING (5)

I maintain confidentiality as required for the fellowship and other programs, as well as with HR, etc. This has been an exceptionally challenging year with staff changes and challenges and a declined applicant targeting me with harassing emails. Nevertheless, I’ve been dependable, calm, & positive

Job KnowledgeLEADING (5)

In addition to delivering my job requirements, I’ve found ways to over deliver with our public events. I also attend national conferences, last year including a conference on behalf of CCS and the annual Grantmakers in the Arts conference, in order to stay informed and contribute to the field.

Interactive/Effective CommunicationSTRENGTH (4)

I accept feedback and criticism and adjust accordingly. With CCS’ leadership transition (IA and President) I am available to provide information to new CCS staff members as needed and am working to ensure that I support their success. I communicate clearly and honestly w/ Kresge and CCS leadership.

Emotional IntelligenceSTRENGTH (4)

I remain calm in the midst of emotionally challenging situations, such as a disgruntled applicant sending repeated emails, and an under-performing employee blaming others for mistakes and indicating the office environment is traumatic for her. I keep my focus positive & on the point of our program.

Management AbilitySTRENGTH (4)

I create a supportive, positive work environment for all staff members. I encourage folks to take good care of themselves & strike a work-life balance that keeps employee turnover low. I go above and beyond to ensure staff members are successful, & to take care of their transition when they are not.

TeamworkLEADING (5)

I have an open and honest dialogue with Kresge regarding what works and what could be improved with the program. I am honest with internal and external collaborators, and self-reflective re: feedback about how I could improve. I contribute wholeheartedly to CCS’ evolution via DE&I and public program

AgilityLEADING (5)

Multitasking and creative problem-solving are strengths. I am learning to balance those with a slower work style that reduces my risk of burnout. I have brought longer-term thinking to Kresge Arts in Detroit events, including this year’s collaboration with Wasserman Projects and 2020 planned w/ DSO.

Goals

    1. Receive Kresge Funding for Years 13/14; include launch of a national award

    1. Expand Kresge Arts in Detroit as a resource for local and national information about Detroit artists and process of review for support to individuals

Accomplishments

    1. 6 week exhibition of Kresge Artist Fellows at Wasserman Projects
    1. Hire & train new Managing Director

    1. Chair DE&I committee that led to CCS committing to hire Director of DE&I for the college

Comments
