Supervisor Evaluation – Don Kilpatrick

It is the College’s goal to annually evaluate the performance of each employee. The purpose of the evaluation process is to provide an opportunity for the supervisor and employee to review the prior year’s work performance. This process should include conversations related to the strengths and weaknesses in your employee’s performance, the development of future objectives, and your support and encouragement in assisting them to reach their full potential. The evaluation process helps to promote better communication between you and your employee, allows your employee input, and enables attention to be focused on job performance standards.  As you communicate the performance appraisal, your employee needs to understand performance expectations and your employee should be provided the opportunity to respond and discuss any issues that may arise.  Feedback concerning job satisfaction, career goals, and position responsibility are encouraged during the appraisal and throughout the year.

I organize the Spring Children’s Book Exhibition each year. For 15 years my class worked with the Detroit Lions to produce their Holiday card. I worked well with every different personality on these occasions.

I enjoy working with my peers and I do not hesitate to be honest with ideas, as far as Adjunct status will allow without being presumptuous. I always encourage and complement team members when i see an opportunity.

For 35 years, without complaining, I have made adjustments without losing momentum, vision or a positive attitude. I encourage others to do the same.

Goals

    1. To observe improvement in each students’ work, as a result of the time spent in my class, fulfilling a necessary step in their development.
    1. To make crucial comments during critiques and conversations with students that will be beneficial to them for the rest of their lives.
    1. To arrange classroom time and outside assignments logically to enhance learning, development, and fun.
    1. To continue to develop and expand as an artist, passing along what i have learned to my students.

Accomplishments

    1. I have discovered several new technique variations in the creation of my art work. Some subtle, some are more obvious.
    1. I have come to see the importance in developing teacher student relationships which help facilitate better work from students..
    1. I have seen students develop a new confidence and competence in their work as a result of things I have said and done.
    1. I have learned to appreciate the opportunity that teaching, and being an artist, give me to be a voice in a young persons life.

Comments

I feel that we have been given the freedom, within a structured framework, to employ our own personality and gifts to fulfill the vision of the departments’ goals. I think this is one of the reasons the department is doing so well. Within the department I don’t feel the stigma of an adjunct.
