Supervisor Evaluation – Bruce Feldman

It is the College’s goal to annually evaluate the performance of each employee. The purpose of the evaluation process is to provide an opportunity for the supervisor and employee to review the prior year’s work performance. This process should include conversations related to the strengths and weaknesses in your employee’s performance, the development of future objectives, and your support and encouragement in assisting them to reach their full potential. The evaluation process helps to promote better communication between you and your employee, allows your employee input, and enables attention to be focused on job performance standards.  As you communicate the performance appraisal, your employee needs to understand performance expectations and your employee should be provided the opportunity to respond and discuss any issues that may arise.  Feedback concerning job satisfaction, career goals, and position responsibility are encouraged during the appraisal and throughout the year.

This past year led the Junior trip to NYC, helping them create fundraising strategies to meet their required goals and independently organized all meetings and schedule for the trip. Additionally, worked at the request of supervisor to update or rework multiple syllabi for the department.

Consistently on time and available for students both in and out of the classroom, attends all department, faculty, and committee meetings and is happy to take on additional tasks as a result of those meetings. Attends additional senior reviews whenever it does not conflict with scheduled classes.

As a new member to the CCS team, I make a special effort to learn all the necessary requirements of my position and execute them in an effective manner. I additionally attend conferences to stay up to date in modern thinking and practices and am researching workshops for further learning.

Goals

    1. Attend, or be registered, for at least one outside workshop to further learning in teaching and/or technical practices by September 2020.
    1. Teach the introduction to Fine Art Concepts class Winter 2020 to be more inclusive of previously unrepresented minority perspectives and views with a revised syllabus and reading list.
    1. Hold a meeting with the other female members of photography departments at local institutions to open a channel for collaboration and discussion across institutions (inc. Cranbrook, MSU, WSU, etc).
    1. Introduce students in the Corktown sponsored project this year to diverse community viewpoints by scheduling meetings for them with at least 4 local community leaders, non-profits, and businesses.

Accomplishments

    1. Plan, fundraise, and execute the Junior Class trip to NYC where students met with NARS, Schiemflug, Pier 59 Studios, Penumbra Foundation, Aperture Foundation, SVA, among others.
    1. Revised and taught the Fine Art Forms class to reflect a more contemporary approach to practice, encourage experimentation and exploration, and incorporate newer forms for the contemporary student.
    1. Worked with students out of class on independent projects and applications, discovered and sent students calls for applications that would be relevant to their work, resulting in at least 3 successes.
    1. Continued professional development off campus by showing in multiple exhibits, including a solo show in NYC, featured in two publications, and serving on the board of Darkroom Detroit.

Comments

Continue to keep an open line of communication regarding upcoming and current classes and encourage additional training and workshops outside of the department to bring back new techniques and skills to share with students.
