Supervisor Evaluation – Aki Choklat

It is the College’s goal to annually evaluate the performance of each employee. The purpose of the evaluation process is to provide an opportunity for the supervisor and employee to review the prior year’s work performance. This process should include conversations related to the strengths and weaknesses in your employee’s performance, the development of future objectives, and your support and encouragement in assisting them to reach their full potential. The evaluation process helps to promote better communication between you and your employee, allows your employee input, and enables attention to be focused on job performance standards.  As you communicate the performance appraisal, your employee needs to understand performance expectations and your employee should be provided the opportunity to respond and discuss any issues that may arise.  Feedback concerning job satisfaction, career goals, and position responsibility are encouraged during the appraisal and throughout the year.

I take pride in my role as the FAD Department’s Sewing Lab Technician. All of my duties that include cleanliness, organization, teaching, maintenance and more teaching have been improving every semester. I learn more daily and share that knowledge with the students on a daily basis.

I have been dealing with some health issues in 2019, but when I am at my best and healthy I am extremely dependable. Whether it relates to co-workers or students, I believe if canvased they would all agree with my assessment.

Every semester our department has amassed more specialized equipment and tools which keeps me learning (whether this involves formal training OR trial and error). I know most of these machines and tools and their many quirks better than I know most of my friends and family.

I am an excellent communicator. I have a great rapport with my co-workers and students alike. In addition I am timely responding to my emails and I returning phone calls promptly as well. I try not to go home without everything dealt with for that day.

I have a high emotional intelligence. I have had minimal issues with students or co-workers in the last four years. The couple of times that differences arose, I dealt with them immediately and professionally. I have read many books that deal with this subject matter.

Our FAD Studio has grown from 4 Industrial Sewing Machines to just under 50 Industrial Sewing Machines, and our most recent acquisition the Atom FlashCut Easy 222 knife cutting machine. Managing equipment and the people who use it takes knowledge, patience and a lot of supervision.

I have an outstanding rapport with all of my Adjunct Teaching Staff. This includes Continuing Education teachers and the artists we bring in for workshops. I learn a lot from my co-workers and students. Our collaborations have equaled smoother classes and more positive experience for our students

AgilityLEADING (5)

I am 6′-4″ tall, but agility has become my middle name in the FAD Studio. With the constant increase in equipment I have had to stay flexible, open, and ready to embrace change. We have evolved fairly seamlessly as our department needs AND the students we attract have grown.

Goals

    1. Spend more time each semester on Lyndia learning computer programs that will aid in the operation of the FlashCut Easy 222, Cricut Machine and soon our 3D Scanner.
    1. Schedule a maintenance visit for the FlashCut Easy 222 with Relco Inc. Shadow the technician who comes to service machine so I can be more familiar with the ins and outs of maintenance on the Atom.
    1. Take more Continuing Education Classes. I would like to continue to expand my knowledge of shoe making with different styles, techniques and types of construction.
    1. I would love to travel abroad with the Students on the Italy Trip and possibly chaperone them on individual opportunities both Internationally and in this Country. Sharing their success is rewarding.

Accomplishments

    1. Last fall I completed 3 days of training on the Atom FlashCut Easy 222 with Brandon Williams of the Manufacturer’s Supply Co. This was highly beneficial to me and my success operating this machine.
    1. Daveed Matta’s Pump Class in the Summer of 2018. My introduction to women’s footwear. This CE Class helped me to be ahead of the FAD 102 Students and helped me help them learn how to make theirs.
    1. I was awarded an Artist Residency at Penland’s School of Arts and Crafts from December 31st – January 12, 2019, last year to work on my craft. The uninterrupted studio time did wonders for me!
    1. I started to develop a new clothing collection for the FW2019/2020 this summer. After an unproductive winter, my summer has given me a new vision and direction for Left-Handed Branded LLC.
