Donor Relations Coordinator – Design Core Detroit

Position Summary

The Donor Relations Coordinator II supports Design Core’s overall fundraising efforts by working closely with the Co-Executive Directors and the CCS Office of Institutional Advancement (IA) to support the drafting of applications and proposals for new opportunities. Works with Co-Executive Directors to collect, analyze and report data and stories relevant to grant metrics, and manage internal communications and sponsorship deliverables for corporate and community partners.

Position Accountabilities and Essential Functions

  • Supports the implementation and execution of Design Core’s fundraising strategy to meet year-end goals.
  • Works directly with IA and the Design Core team to:
    • Support the development, preparation, and submission of grants, sponsorship proposals, applications, and reports.
    • Collect and prepare all relevant grants and funding materials including but not limited to narratives describing program activities, concept papers, budgets and expense reports, and success stories.
    • Prepare and compile all components of each grant submission and corporate proposal, ensuring that all proposals are formatted, packaged, and submitted in accordance with agency requirements.
    • Ensure the distribution of gift receipts and pledge reminders generated by the Office of Institutional Advancement.
    • Ensure compliance with IRS charitable gift guidelines and College policies and procedures and support the auditing process, as needed.
  • Stays current with foundation trends and corporate giving priorities.
  • Responsible for maintaining both CCS and Design Core fundraising records, using Raiser’s Edge, NEON and other internal systems to record and track grant proposals, awards, and related statistical information and to ensure proper recording and documentation of gifts and awards,
  • Creates and distributes standard and special reports, studies, summaries, and analyses, as required.
  • Manage all gift tracking and related actions, event donations, gifts in kind, and sales in Neon and other database programs, including the CCS donor database, Raiser’s Edge.
  • Coordinate all grant and sponsorship agreements, invoices and adjustments with the office administrator and CCS Business Office
  • Archive past grant documents and sponsor information in shared files, Raiser’s Edge, the CCS database, and NEON, the Design Core client management system.
  • Provide on-site support for sponsored activations and events.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of two years of fundraising and/or grant writing experience.
  • Outstanding communication, interpersonal, organizational, presentation skills and strong writing skills.
  • Proven track record of organizational and time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects, data, and deadlines, while producing superior results.
  • Attention to details and commitment to excellence in planning, execution and follow up is required.
  • Ability to comprehend and synthesize complex information and effectively communicate ideas and goals verbally and nonverbally.
  • Must be flexible and comfortable solving problems and making decisions in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Must be able to travel locally to attend conferences or participate in meetings. If driving, valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Design Core’s and CCS’s current technology tools and platforms, including Neon, Google Drive, Neon, Raiser’s Edge, Asana, Slack.
  • The ability to speak with cultural competence in front of small or large groups and to varying audiences ranging from students and community groups to C-level talent.
  • Candidates should possess an interest in and general understanding of the creative economy, small business development, and economic development in general.
  • Design Core prefers candidates who are self-motivated, organized, strong writers, creative thinkers, and thoughtful problem solvers.
  • A passion for Detroit or urban economic development is a plus.

  • Support our business clients by sharing news and information, discovering and communicating opportunities, and collecting and reporting metrics and feedback.
  • Represent Design Core at meetings and events, as assigned.
  • Must be a self-starter, and creative thinker, with a genuine interest in continuous learning and ownership of assigned projects.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office and college campus environment.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to maintain a stationary position, use a computer and other office equipment, and communicate effectively in person, by phone, and virtually.  Frequent interaction with others, including staff, faculty, students and third parties is required.  The employee may occasionally be required to move files or other objects weighing up to 25 pounds, including from low and high places.  The ability to move around within the office and between buildings on campus, attend off-site meetings and events, and travel between Ford Campus site to Taubman Center site are required.  CCS will make reasonable accommodations that will allow individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Work Hours

SCHEDULE: This is a full time position, Monday-Friday, 9am – 5pm. This position is eligible for CCS’s remote work policy, which permits 2 days a week of remote work with supervisor approval. Design Core does require the team to be together in the office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
