Using Rubrics for Assignment Grading

When attaching a rubric to a Canvas assignment, it is important to indicate that the rubric should be used for assignment grading…so that you can use it for grading in the SpeedGrader. This tutorial will describe how to add a rubric to an assignment and use that rubric for assignment grading.

1. Click on Assignments on the left-hand course navigation menu.
2. Click on the name of your assignment.
3. If there is not a rubric displayed below the assignment instructions:
   1. Click the + Rubric button.
   2. Create your rubric.
   3. Ensure that the checkbox next to Use this rubric for assignment grading is selected.
   4. Click the Create Rubric button.
4. If there is a rubric displayed below the assignment instructions:
   1. Click the ✏️ pencil icon at the top right corner of the rubric to Edit Rubric.
   2. Ensure that the checkbox next to Use this rubric for assignment grading is selected.
   3. Click the Update Rubric button.
