Workshop & Training Sessions
Workshop and training sessions are provided by the Ed Tech team a few times each semester. Faculty and Staff are welcome to participate in any upcoming sessions. Sessions generally last about one hour and are interactive; providing demonstrations and time for questions.
Fall 2025
Canvas Gradebook Setup & Grading (December 2, 2025)
This training covered grading basics, including:
- Working with various Gradebook views and settings (published grades, hidden grades, etc.)
- Creating Assignment Groups (or grade categories)
- Assigning Grading Weights
- Grading Assignments using SpeedGrader

Designing for Engagement: Crafting Intuitive Canvas Experiences (March 7, 2025)
This workshop focused on transforming your Canvas course into an engaging, visually appealing learning space.
- Use the DesignPLUS Sidebar to create professional-looking pages without HTML knowledge
- Create interactive elements like accordions and tabs to organize content effectively
- Design intuitive navigation structures that enhance student interaction (embedded quizzes)
- Apply visual design principles to support learning objectives (template overview and other pages)

Equitable Learning Through Accessibility: Making Courses Accessible For All (February 20, 2024)
This workshop discussed the importance of accessible course content for all students.
- Introducing web accessibility
- Discovering POUR (Perceivable, Operable, Understandable, Robust)
- Explaining ways to make content accessible
Leveraging Canvas Studio for Interactive Videos (March 19, 2024)
This workshop focused on creating interaction and engagement in your course videos hosted on Canvas Studio.
- Demonstrating Canvas Studio
- Managing audio/video files

Developing Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs) for Better Student Outcomes (October 12, 2023)
This workshop discussed how to develop clear, measurable, and attainable course learning outcomes that align with course assignments and projects, with student success in mind.

This workshop helped faculty discover how to craft student-friendly rubrics that not only empower learners but also streamline their grading process.

Creating Community Using Peer Review Interactive Workshop (February 10, 2023)
This workshop discussed the benefits of integrating peer review into the classroom. Faculty were also shown how to use Peer Review settings in Canvas Assignments that allow for features like anonymous reviews, rubrics, and more.
