Editing Your Canvas Profile

Every user in Canvas has a profile page which can be customized based on personal preferences. Let’s dive in and take a look at what options are available.

Profile

  1. Log in to Canvas.
  2. In Global Navigation, click the Account link.
  3. Within the fly-out menu that appears, select Profile.
  4. On the Profile page, there are a handful of (optional) items that you can edit. Click the ✏️ Edit Profile button at the top right-hand corner of the screen to:
    • edit Name Pronunciation
    • Manage Registered Services
    • edit Biography
    • edit Links
    • upload an image to your Canvas profile via the profile picture icon. (NOTE: As described in the second video tutorial at the bottom of this page, you can also upload your image via your personal “Settings” page.)
  1. Click the Save Profile button to save changes.

Click the manage registered Services link, please 00:44: note that any selected services will not be shared with other course group members 00:48: unless you have previously selected the sharing checkbox in the manage registered Services 00:52: page. 00:55: The discussion icon automatically appears as a contact method for admins. 00:58: So users can contact them through canvas conversations. 01:01: It cannot be selected by any other users. 01:06: Type your biography in the bio field. You can add hobbies and interesting facts about yourself. 01:12: To add personal links to your profile such as personal websites 01:16: blogs or portfolios enter the title of the link in the title 01:20: field. Type the URL in the URL field 01:25: Click the remove icon to delete the link. 01:28: Click the Add another link button to add another link. 01:32: Click the Save Profile button. 01:35: This guide shows how to edit a profile in the user account.

    00:06: How do I add a profile picture in my user account? 00:10: In Global Navigation, click the Account link. 00:14: Then click the Settings link. 00:17: Click the profile picture icon. 00:20: Choose the desired method to add a profile picture. 00:24: Then click the choose a picture link. You can also drag a picture from your desktop 00:28: and drop it into the uploader. 00:31: Use the selection boxes to crop your image. 00:34: When you are finished, click the Save button. 00:37: To take a picture to use as your profile picture, click the Take a Picture tab. 00:42: Then click the Take Picture button. 00:45: To take another picture, click the Retry button. 00:48: When you are finished, click the Save button. 00:51: If your institution allows gravatar and you have a gravatar account, you 00:55: can import an existing gravatar to use as your profile picture. 00:59: Click the from gravatar table 01:02: Enter your Gravatar email address in the field provided. Click the Preview button to view your Gravatar. 01:09: When you are finished, click the Save button. 01:12: The Profile picture you selected will show up instead of the placeholder profile picture. 01:18: Profile pictures are linked to your personal files so you can easily delete 01:22: them to remove old profile pictures. 01:26: To delete a profile picture, click the Files link. 01:30: Click the profile pictures folder. 01:33: Next to the file you want to delete, click the Options icon. 01:38: Then click the Delete link. 01:41: This guide showed how to add a profile picture in a user account.
