Creating a Zoom Poll is a great way to engage your students during online meeting sessions. You can ask simple questions or collect important data via a poll. The poll responses can be exported for later use. You can create a poll during the Zoom meeting setup process, or you can create a poll once your Zoom meeting has started. You can even select a toggle switch to turn the poll into a quiz.
There are various types of poll questions that can be created for your Zoom meeting. These question types include:
- Single choice
- Multiple choice
- Matching
- Rank order
- Short answer
- Long answer
- Fill in the blank
- Rating scale
Creating a Poll When Setting Up a Zoom Meeting via the CCS Access Manager
- From the CCS Access Manager, click on the Zoom button.
- If prompted, sign in to your Zoom account.
- Click on Meetings on the left-hand side of the Zoom dashboard.
- Click on the + Schedule a Meeting button on the right side of the screen.
- Add the details of your Zoom meeting including date, start time, and duration.
- Click the Save button at the bottom of the screen.
- On the next screen, a summary of your created meeting will appear. Click on the Polls/Quizzes tab at the top of the screen.
- Click the + Create button to begin creating your poll question(s).
- Add the details of your poll question.
- Click the + Add question button to add additional questions to your poll.
- Click the Save button in the upper right corner of the screen to save your poll.
The below video shows how to set up a meeting that includes a poll for use during a future meeting.
Note: Since the time of this recording, the location of where to create polls has slightly changed, though the overall process is the same. Follow the above steps to create a new poll for your Zoom meeting.
Creating a Poll When Setting Up a Zoom Meeting via Canvas
- In Course Navigation, click the Zoom link.
- If Zoom is not visible on your course navigation, follow the steps in Streamlining Student Navigation: Course Navigation to enable it in your course.
- If this is your first time using Zoom via Canvas, you may be asked to authenticate/confirm your CCS e-mail address. This is a one-time process.
- Click the Schedule a New Meeting button at the top right corner of the Zoom interface.
- Add the details of your Zoom meeting including date, start time, and duration.
- Click the Save button at the bottom of the screen.
- On the next screen, a summary of your created meeting will appear. Scroll to the bottom of the screen, to Download a CSV Template.
- Once the CSV file is saved to your computer, open up the file to create your own poll questions. Save your changes to the CSV template when finished.
- Within the Zoom interface in Canvas, click the Import CSV button to select the CSV file you saved to your computer.
Creating a Poll in a Zoom Meeting
- On the Zoom toolbar, click on the Polls/quizzes icon.
- If this icon is not visible, click on the More icon, and then select Polls/quizzes from the available menu choices.
- If there are no polls/quizzes currently created, click on the Create button.
- Enter in the details of your poll/quiz question including the name of the poll, the question itself, and any other relevant information.
- Save your changes when you are finished.
Launching a Poll in a Zoom Meeting
- On the Zoom toolbar, click on the Polls/quizzes icon.
- If this icon is not visible, click on the More icon, and then select Polls/quizzes from the available menu choices.
- Highlight the poll/quiz that you created, and click the Launch button.
- Click the End poll button to end the poll for your Zoom participants.
- Click the Share results button if you’d like to share the results with your Zoom participants.
- Click the three-dot ellipsis icon, and select Download results to download a CSV file to your computer.
