The Canvas Inbox is the internal messaging tool within the Canvas Learning Management System. It functions like an email system, allowing students and instructors enrolled in the same course or institution to send and receive messages directly to one another without leaving the Canvas environment. You can use it to ask your instructor a private question, coordinate with a group for a project, or receive updates about your course.

Because it is a closed, internal system, you cannot use the Canvas Inbox to send messages to friends or family, nor can people outside of Canvas (using Gmail, Yahoo, etc.) send messages that will appear in your Canvas Inbox.
