The Groups feature in Canvas is a tool that allows an instructor to divide a course roster into smaller, private “mini-courses.” Each group gets its own collaborative workspace, which functions like a small-scale Canvas site. This space includes its own separate Announcements, Discussion boards, file-sharing area, and Pages, all of which are visible only to group members and the instructor. Instructors most commonly use this feature for group projects and assignments—allowing one student to submit on behalf of the entire group—or to create separate, small-group discussions within a large class.
