The Canvas Attendance tool, also known as “Roll Call,” is an feature instructors use to take attendance in their courses. For each class session, an instructor can mark students as present, absent, or late.

When the instructor first uses this tool, Canvas automatically creates a “Roll Call Attendance” assignment in the Gradebook. This assignment updates as a running percentage. For example, if you are marked “present” for 3 out of 4 classes, your attendance grade would be 75%. Instructors can also choose to use the tool just for tracking without having it affect your final grade.

While students cannot access the instructor’s main roll call interface, you can see your own attendance record and grade by finding the “Roll Call Attendance” assignment in your Grades section.
