Accessibility in the Canvas LMS is a shared responsibility, starting with a platform that is designed to be compliant with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). This means the core layout, navigation, and features are built to be compatible with assistive technologies like screen readers and keyboard-only navigation. However, the ultimate accessibility of a course depends on the instructor. To assist with this, Canvas includes a built-in Accessibility Checker in its Rich Content Editor that prompts instructors to fix common issues, such as adding alt text to images, ensuring proper heading structures, and checking for sufficient color contrast, all of which are essential for making course content usable for all students.
