What’s old is new! This class will explore a,variety of DIY art-making techniques while,discussing ideas of upcycling, reuse, and,sustainable practices. From no-sew projects and,fabric dying to print making and Zines, if you,like to repurpose, this class is for you! Supplies,are included, though students may want to bring,additional items of their own.

AVIS-107 BLACKSMITHING

Explore the ancient craft of blacksmithing, with a,focus on its historical and contemporary,relevance. Students will learn how to forge,ferrous metals and will create a small object,(such as a trivet) utilizing demonstrated,techniques. This course is held outdoors.,Enrollment limited to six students.

AVIS-150 SCULPTURE: CASTING IN THE FOUNDRY

Learn the materials, processes and techniques,used to produce finished cast-metal sculpture,safely, including the sprue system for ceramic,shell investment and resin-bonded sand casting,,metal finishing and patination. Both begininning,and more advanced students will cast their own,work. The cost for metals used is in addition to,the listed material fee.

AVIS-395 URBAN PHOTOGRAPHY

Students will be guided to look at and photograph,architectural details in the area’s richly diverse,historic neighborhoods. Creative composition,and framing techniques will be used to capture,interesting details in unique ways. Students,should bring a 35mm camera and 400 ASA Fujicolor,negative film to the first class.

Get a first-hand look at tincluding Picasso,, Matisse, and Warhol and be inspired to create, your own colorful masterworks. This class will, introduce young people to art history and basic, painting and sculpting techniques. Parent, permission required to visit the Detroit, Institute of Arts.
