An introduction to analog image-making that,investigates analog media and techniques from,gestures to contemporary interdisciplinary,processes. This studio course serves as an introduction to,the fundamental disciplines of Fine Arts.,Students focus on the development of observational,skills and an understanding of the techniques and,materials employed in a variety of mediums.,Projects encourage basic skills with the,development of the creative process. PCS-139 COLOR AND LIGHT STUDIES

Color and light studies will introduce students to,the theory and practice of color through,observation, experimentation, readings,,screenings, discussion, and creative projects.,They will develop a working color vocabulary,considering sensory experience, the psychology of,color, personal preference, and historical and,symbolic meanings of color. Students will also,gain a fundamental and practical understanding of,mixing color through traditional and,non-traditional materials. This class is,experiential and open-ended, an attempt to,understand color and light as an evolving,scientific, philosophical, and cultural,phenomenon. ,,This is the equivalent course to DFN 139

PCS-140 ELEMENTS OF DRAWING

This course is the first course at the,undergraduate level and does not assume that the,student has any strongly developed drawing skills.,It is further assumed that the experienced student,profits by exposure to a systematic exploration of,drawing methods. Its primary purpose is to,introduce the student to basic concepts in drawing,and then, begin to develop more creative and,expressive responses. Drawing I moves the student,into a more volumetric understanding of drawing as,well as considerable emphasis on observational,,formal composition and design.

PCS-142 PERFORMATIVE SPACES

This introductory studio course provides students,the opportunity to develop skills in presentation,,storytelling, writing, and performance in a studio,practice context. Projects will broaden student’s,understanding of contemporary current events,,recontextualizing themes through their own voice,or personal lens. Students apply skills,,materials, and tools gained thus far in their,first-year experience to explore the narrative,development of ideas found in contemporary culture,that are relevant to the student and their area of,disciplinary study. Performative explorations,,that may be collaborative in nature, provide,students presentation skills that prepare them to,engage an audience, through a variety of sensory,experiences and means.
