This course is for high school students in Dual,Enrollment program. Course is cross-listed with,DFN 117, and uses same syllabus as required by,Foundations Dept. Taught by Foundations faculty,and students attend with college students.,,This course is an introduction to the principles,,vocabulary and mechanics of two dimensional,design, including the exploration and application,,of color theory. Students explore Concentration,Specific design concepts, through lectures,,readings, discussions, hands-on, studio,assignments and critiques; translating 2D design,concepts from traditional to digital mediums,(Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator). Students will,design and produce compelling presentation,materials and asset layouts with effective,messaging using proper proportion, composition,,typographical considerations and meaning and,tension.

PCS-118 SE DRAWING AND PAINTING

Learn to successfully move from reality to,concept,using processes of analysis, experimentation,and conceptualization. Draw from observation,and learn techniques to accurately depict,perspective and proportion, and to render,form, light and shade. Move into concept-based,painting by working your drawings into,preliminary,studies for paintings by changing shape,relationships, creating new value arrangements,,and experimenting with the principle of duality.

Taught by Foundations faculty,and students attend with college students.,,This course is an introduction to the principles,,vocabulary and mechanics of three-dimensional,design. The course develops visual aesthetic,sensitivity to three-dimensional line, plane, form,and space. Students execute hands-on studio,assignments and critiques and explore design,concepts through lectures, readings, and,discussions. The scope and sequence allows for,student exploration of diverse artists and,designers. Within the concepts presented, students,will respond with work that addresses a breadth of,lived experience as well as contemporary human and,environmental issues in design.

PCS-119 DIGITAL TECHNIQUES

The introductory course in computer skills is a,requirement to complete the Foundation,curriculum.,Students explore the computer as a tool in,support,of artist/designer’s practice, including software,required for the college information system,and,creative digital imagery in both pixel and vector,based software. Students work with popular,software packages, appropriate for design, to,gain an understanding of the tools used to create,and manipulate digital imagery and to develop a,broad understanding of how and why the computer,is so prominent in image making today.

PCS-120 CREATIVE VISUALIZATION

The emphasis of this course is on imaginative,pre-production for an evolving world of moving,images. Acknowledging the rapid changes in the way,work is produced and distributed, students will be,introduced to diverse historical, theoretical, and,practical methods of visual communication as they,develop their storytelling skills through creative,writing and pre-visualization exercises for,animation, game, live action, and new media with,an emphasis on inclusion in story and unique,experiences. This is a required course for all,first year Entertainment Arts students.

PCS-122 DRAWING II-STYLE & SKILL

This course is for high school students in Dual,Enrollment program. Course is cross-listed with,DFN 112, and uses same syllabus as required by,Foundations Dept. Taught by Foundations faculty,and students attend with college students.,,Students will expand their understanding of the,fundamentals of drawing and sketching, and develop,their own personal sense of style and enhanced,skill. Advanced drawing techniques are explored,with a focus on complex composition design and the,creation of compelling visual stories. ,Additionally, the human figure will be explored as,a basis of understanding gesture, proportion,,geometric forms in space and the definition of,complex surfaces.

PCS-123 GRAPHIC DESIGN CONCEPTS

Using concepts of graphic design, students will,design a visual brand campaign to promote a cause,,event, or organization, using modes of,communication including print, UxD, and motion,graphics. Students will learn basic digital design,techniques to produce solutions that reach their,goals and their audience. Adobe Creative Suite,experience is recommended but not required.
