Description of Change

Increase number of transfer credits allowable to accommodate MTA and MTN along with transfer credits CCS has agreed to via Articulation Agreements. CCS is a signatory Member school of MTA and MTN and must accommodate transfer of all credits earned through these pathways and apply those credits to degree requirements.

Reason for Policy

The recommendations in the proposal make room for a more competitive AP credit policy that will attract more highly qualified and college-minded high school students, while ensuring the integrity of our programming and levels of student preparedness.

These recommendations aim to strike a middle ground that balances the very generous ACE recommendations, which many institutions have adopted, with alignment to fellow AICAD policies. Many of these policies have recently reduced their cut scores back to 3, which was our own cut score prior to 2016. The rationale for increasing scores in 2016 appears to have come from admissions and observations that fellow AICAD institutions at the time had raised minimum scores requirements. As noted, these same institutions have since reduced scores again.

To allow for greater flexibility in placement, references to some specific equivalencies, namely DFN, have been removed. However, the cut scores for application of these specific courses to the studio have remained the same, with the caveat that placement is determined by the review of portfolio/work.

The most significant changes include sliding scales for select courses that facilitate increased awarding of credit (which is less than what is recommended by ACE), and a shift in structure for ease of student access. Scores highlighted will now include a sliding scale that considers more credit for higher scores.
Please see Tab 2 (ACE Recommendations) and Tab 3 (Current) for references and a comparison of what our policy would look like if we adopted the ACE recommendations in full and our current policy.
