Description of Change
Currently, if the college co-develops a course with a faculty subject matter expert (SME), there is a large investment by the college through the work of the EdTech department and faculty are compensated for this work. If the college is going to offer courses and programs online, then we need stability in being able to offer these courses and programs beyond 2 semesters of the faculty leaving the college.
Policy Statement
Recommend adding to Commissioned Works within the Categories of Works …
In cases where faculty members are specifically compensated by CCS for the development of a course, these courses, including all materials, content, and intellectual contributions made in the course of their development, will be considered as ‘Commissioned Works.’ Consequently, CCS will retain full ownership of these courses and their content. Additionally, faculty members who develop a course under this arrangement will have the first right of refusal to teach the course for the next two instances it is offered, ensuring that the original course developer has the opportunity to deliver and refine the course content in its initial offerings.
