{"id":3351,"date":"2026-07-09T15:18:46","date_gmt":"2026-07-09T19:18:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/policy\/?p=3351"},"modified":"2026-07-10T09:34:23","modified_gmt":"2026-07-10T13:34:23","slug":"petition-to-graduate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/policy\/petition-to-graduate\/","title":{"rendered":"Petition to Graduate"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eligible former students may request a review of their academic record and supporting documentation to determine whether degree requirements have been satisfied or whether alternative pathways to degree completion may be available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Submission of a petition does not guarantee approval or degree conferral. Each petition will be evaluated on an individual basis and will consider the student&#8217;s academic record, applicable catalog requirements, available documentation, institutional policies, and any additional information provided by the student. The College reserves the right to require supplemental documentation, coursework, assessments, or other evidence necessary to verify eligibility for graduation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students considering a petition are encouraged to review the eligibility requirements, application procedures, and records retention policy before submitting an application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Eligible Students<\/strong> Include:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Those who are not eligible for current registration and would otherwise be required to reapply.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have not attended in the last 4 semesters (fall or winter), and have not enrolled in&nbsp; any of the past three summer semesters.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have missing graduation requirements that fall into one of the following&nbsp; categories:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Missing requirements were previously completed with transfer credits, but the final official transcript was never received<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Missing 3.0 &#8211; 6.0 credits of degree requirements under a&nbsp; prior catalog year; Students who have not met the 3.0-6.0 credit hour requirement may be considered for graduation on a case-by-case basis following additional review.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Completed all course requirements under a prior catalog year but are missing other graduation requirements (i.e., capstone paper or final departmental review);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Completed all course\/degree requirements under a prior catalog year but did not apply to graduate due to extenuating circumstances.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are in good academic standing (meet GPA requirements)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have no disciplinary or academic integrity actions applied to their records<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have no outstanding financial obligations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Note: Students who do not meet the above criteria for the \u201cPetition to Graduate\u201d process will be required to follow the standard <a href=\"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/policy\/readmission\/\">readmissions process for undergraduate students<\/a> or the <a href=\"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/policy\/graduate-student-readmission\/\">readmissions process for graduate students<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Petition Process<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Submit a formal Petition to Graduate Forma and include the following as required, based on evaluation of their academic progress and degree requirement status:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Official Non-CCS Academic Transcripts to verify completed transfer credit<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Petition statement identifying reasons for petition and including circumstances that contributed to ineligibility of graduation or inaccurate records at the time of attendance (i.e.,&nbsp; non-submission of graduation application, missing academic records and\/or credits, etc.).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CCS may request additional documentation to support the petition, including, but not limited to, a portfolio, r\u00e9sum\u00e9, evidence of prior learning, professional accomplishments, professional certifications, or other materials deemed relevant to the evaluation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Approval Process<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Petitions will go through a review process conducted by the Registrar\u2019s Office to verify eligibility and confirm all required documents have been received. Final review and approval is confirmed by the respective Academic Deans (with notifications going to the Assistant VP of Campus Life, and Dean of Enrollment. Students are notified of a decision in writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Petitions may be submitted throughout the year. Approval of a petition does not confer eligibility to participate in a commencement ceremony but may result in the awarding of the degree and the finalization or amendment of the student&#8217;s academic record, if all degree requirements have been satisfied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A graduation\/diploma fee is required for eligible students who have credentials updated in their record. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Due to the College&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/policy\/record-retention\/\">records retention policy<\/a>, certain records may no longer be available. The absence of such records may limit the College&#8217;s ability to conduct a complete verification of academic history and degree requirements. The review and determination of any petition will depend on the documentation available, the details of the application, and the outcome being requested.
