The death of a student\nis a tragic event. Many different people on campus will be affected and share\nresponsibilities in responding. Responding to this type of event in a timely\nfashion will allow people to begin coping. The simple dissemination of\ninformation is very important so that people are aware of the facts and that\nthere is support for those who are in need. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even in the face of this\ntype of tragedy there are things that need to be done, for the family of the\ndeceased, for the CCS community, and administratively. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There should be one\npoint person who is in communication with the family. Usually this will be the\nDean of Students\nunless someone else becomes the point person because of family choice or\ncircumstances. To avoid \u201cpassing\u201d the family on to another staff member, the\nperson that the family contacts first is the point person and should make sure\nthe necessary actions are set into motion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25aa Request a copy of the\ndeath certificate so that the student loans can be forgiven \u2013 provide this to\nthe Financial Aid Loan Officer.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25aa When talking with the\nfamily find out what their comfort level is with posting the funeral\narrangements on campus and with how they would like us to respond to questions\nabout how the death occurred. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25aa Notify the necessary campus officials of the death, including those positions listed in this policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25aa If the student lived in campus housing<\/em>, how does the family\nwant to deal with their belongings \u2013 do they want to pack them up or allow us\nto packed them up and then be picked up by\/shipped to the family<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25aa Write an email to CCS community (if\nthe family approves)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25aa Coordinate with the\nstudent\u2019s major academic department to schedule an on-campus memorial service <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25aa Write a letter to the\nstudent\u2019s family <\/p>\n\n\n\n

VP\nfor Enrollment and Student Services <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25aa Process a Tuition Refund\nAppeal to Remove All Charges <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Director of Academic Advising & Registrar <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25aa Withdraw the student\nfrom all classes <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u25aa Updates student\u2019s\ncolleague file to reflect the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
