CCS Student Exhibition Instructions & Rules

Students wishing to exhibit their work do so at their own risk.
CCS cannot assume responsibility or liability for the loss or damage to the artwork that is exhibited or stored.

Work may not be removed from the exhibition before May 25th. If student work is removed prior to Show end, transcripts will be held until a $250.00 fine is paid.

All work must be reviewed and hung prior to Graduation on May 11th, 2023.

Eligibility

Any work produced in a CCS class during the academic year prior to the Student Exhibition is eligible to be juried for exhibition.

Works produced in Precollege and Continuing Studies classes are eligible for the CCS Student Exhibition through the office of Precollege and Continuing Studies.

Entry

All work must be ready to be hung in the show at the time of review.  Work without proper framing/mounting/pedestals etc. will not be considered for entry (see Hanging).  For case by case exceptions, consult your Program Manager.

Review Jury

Each department office makes a schedule of dates and locations for reviews.  See the Program Manger for location and details.

Work that has not been selected for show must be picked up after the departmental jurying.

Labeling

PRINT YOUR NAME AND THE TITLE OF THE WORK ON THE BACK OF THE PIECE.

  • If more than one piece, please label appropriately (i.e. multiples 1 of 2)
  • If applicable, additional prints must be available at time of review.
  • NFS means (Not For Sale).
  • You will receive 100% of the sale price; CCS does not take any commission.
  • We will not hang work that is priced as POR (Price On Request).
  • Once the labels are printed and hung in the show, prices may not be changed by crossing out the old price and writing in a new price.  Work that has been changed in this manner will be pulled from the exhibition or listed as NFS (Not for Sale).
  • Students are responsible for verifying labels and prices are accurate. No price adjustments will be made with patrons once they have purchased.

Hanging

The Show will be hung May 8-May 10.  You are encouraged to participate in hanging work in your department.

All work must be ready for hanging by completion of the following:

  • Sign and title all work on the backside.
  • Paintings must have picture wire on the back that is strong enough to support the work.
  • Drawings and prints should be matted and framed, or will be hung with pins through the corners.
  • Frames should be neat and securely attached.
  • Sculptures must be stable and able to stand on their own.

Not all work selected is exhibited.  Priority is given to:

  • The overall look of the show.
  • Works with larger numbers of faculty signatures on the labels.
  • The size of each work; students with larger works may have fewer pieces hung.

Guidelines for Displaying Artwork

  • When displaying art, care must be taken to protect the viewer, the artwork, and the facility.  Safety must always be the highest priority.
  • No lighting fixtures, globes, diffusers or lamps may be altered or moved. No live animals, open flames or burning items i.e. incense etc. No food may be displayed or served as part of an installation.
  • Extension cords may not in any way cross or interfere with walkways.  The Director of Facilities must approve any use of extension cords.
  • Painting of pedestals and walls is not permitted without permission, then with approved paint only, and wall color cannot be changed.
  • Work may not be removed prior to the end of the show.  If, after that date, you are unable to pick up your work, other arrangements must be made through your program manager.  Abandoned work that interferes with summer classes/programs will be promptly discarded.

Removal of Work at Student Exhibition End

  • Unsold work may be picked up May 28 – May 31, from where exhibited, or from your Program Manager.  Your work may have been removed for the honor of documentation – please see your Program Manager.  Unclaimed work may be discarded.
  • Purchased art cannot be taken during the exhibition.   Buyers may pick up work purchased by bringing a receipt to the Valade Family Gallery June 6- June 9, 12:00 Noon to 8:00 pm. To find out if your work has been sold, contact your Program Manager.

Payment for Sold Artwork

The preferred method of payment to students for sold artwork will be direct deposit.  You can sign up for direct deposit by accessing WebAdvisor on Blackboard, and selecting “Bank information for Direct Deposit”.  Checks written directly to the student from the purchaser may be picked up June 24 – June 28, 2023 at the CCS Business Office, Cashier’s Window in the Yamasaki Building on the Ford Campus, between 9 am – 4 pm.  Any checks not picked up by June 28, will be mailed to the student’s permanent address on file, unless a summer address has been provided.
CCS will not be responsible for checks lost in the mail.

Retention of Student Art Work Policy

Unless otherwise agreed to in writing (for example, in connection with a sponsored project or internship), students at CCS own their work product and its associated intellectual property rights. The College retains unlimited rights to reproduce images of student art work indefinitely for historical, archival, accreditation, and promotional purposes. Photo credit will be given to any student whose work is reproduced for such purposes.

Students are expected to remove their work from campus at the end of each semester unless selected by the faculty for display purposes. Student art work left at the College will only be retained for one semester after that, unless otherwise specified by the Department Chair or prior arrangements are made in writing. The retention period for work created in the winter semester is the end of the following fall semester. Work included in the Student Exhibition is considered part of the winter semester of that year, regardless of when the work was created. Work left on campus after the retention period will be considered abandoned, with the student relinquishing any claim of ownership to the College. Abandoned work may be destroyed and will not be sold or donated to others. The College assumes no liability for student artwork left on campus. Please see your Department Chair or Program Manager for further information on the retention of student art work.

Liability

The College assumes no responsibility for student work displayed in College venues or special exhibitions.
