{"id":3497,"date":"2021-06-22T13:23:25","date_gmt":"2021-06-22T17:23:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/imaging-center\/?p=3497"},"modified":"2021-06-22T14:46:20","modified_gmt":"2021-06-22T18:46:20","slug":"photoshop-cmyk-simulation-overview","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/imaging-center\/2021\/06\/22\/photoshop-cmyk-simulation-overview\/","title":{"rendered":"Photoshop Overview"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><strong>Introduction: Before you Begin<\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">If you didn\u2019t separate your colors into layers while you made the piece, you have a few options:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-advgb-list\"><ul class=\"advgblist-fd46edd1-b543-408a-84d1-f51be194fbe8 advgb-list advgb-list-controls-play\"><li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/imaging-center\/2021\/06\/22\/cmyk-simulation-option-1-color-range-selection\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"3546\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Option 1<\/a>:<\/strong> Separate out the colors using the Menu &gt; Select &gt; Color Range (try a few different tolerances) and make spot channels with that.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/imaging-center\/2021\/06\/22\/cmyk-simulation-option-2-convert-to-grayscale-re-color\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"3550\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Option 2:<\/strong> <\/a>Convert the whole image to Grayscale, and re-color the whole image using the multi-channel color space.<\/li><li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/imaging-center\/2021\/06\/22\/cmyk-simulation-option-3-convert-to-cmyk-or-cmy\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"3556\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Option 3<\/a>:<\/strong> Simulate a four-color process print (CMYK) by using the channels as they are.<\/li><\/ul><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-normal-font-size\">Adjust your document setup by checking the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-advgb-list\"><ul class=\"advgblist-cdba5431-a818-4175-87f0-0bdb1d031723 advgb-list advgb-list-controls-play\"><li>Check your image size<ul><li>The <strong>maximum printable area<\/strong> is <strong>10\u201d x 16&#8243;<\/strong>. <\/li><\/ul><ul><li>This allows room for crop and registration marks.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Set your resolution to <strong>600 dpi<\/strong><ul><li>Menu Bar &gt; Image &gt; Image Size &gt; Resolution: 600<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Set your color space to <strong>Adobe RGB (1998)<\/strong><ul><li>Menu Bar &gt; Edit &gt; Convert to Profile &gt; Destination Space: Adobe RGB (1998)<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Download the IC Riso swatches <a href=\"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/imaging-center\/main\/drivers-dowloads-winter-2021\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"1890\">HERE<\/a><ul><li>If you prefer to add the Riso colors manually, be sure to add them as SPOT PANTONE colors<\/li><li>Save your document as a <strong>new file<\/strong>. <ul><li>Note: these methods all require switching your color mode and deleting channels, which can be a <strong>destructive<\/strong> workflow (e.g., layers get flattened or color information is discarded). When working with channels, it is difficult to revert back to the previous look.
