Graduate Assistantship (GA) positions are available to all registered graduate students at the College forCreative Studies with a 3.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA).

There are three types of GA positions: Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA), Graduate Research Assistant (GRA), and Graduate Student Assistant (GSA).

Material Lab Assistant – Graduate Student Assistant (GSA)

Summary of Purpose – Graduate Student Assistant (GSA)

The position of a Graduate Student Assistant (GSA) is to provide a graduate student with an opportunity to extend his/her/their professional knowledge while executing a variety of administrative skills. The role is also an opportunity for the student to acquire new skills in an academic setting. The purpose of a GSA is to provide support and assistance to
the hiring department by complementing the activities of the supervisor and departmental team to which they are assigned.

General Responsibilities – Graduate Student Assistant (GSA)

  • The GSA reports directly to his/her/their supervisor.
  • The GSA is expected to be prepared for his/her/their duties/job functions.
  • The GSA must understand the objectives set forth for the position.
  • Additionally, the GTA performs other duties as necessary.

Position Specific Responsibilities – Graduate Student Assistant (GSA)

In addition to the responsibilities listed above, this position requires the items listed below.

The Material Lab Assistant will work with the Chair of the Department to oversee and maintain a working material lab environment that gives students access to a space to experiment and make new materials.

Work with the Department Chair to co-design an organizational system.

Oversee the organization and maintenance of Room 711, including inventory of materials, maintenance of washing and storage areas, and sign in sheet.

Work with the Program Manager to identify and procure necessary materials for the lab to keep the inventory up-to-date.

Requirements – Graduate Student Assistant (GSA)

  • Completion of FERPA 101: Colleges & Universities Training within 1 month after starting position.
  • A possession of exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • An ability to multitask, work to meet deadlines, and be adaptable to change.
  • A willingness to follow instructions and work in a supporting role.
  • A demonstration of respect and cooperation with the supervisor and others.
  • A familiarity with the following technology/software/online platforms required for position: Adobe Creative Suite: Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, etc

Required for Position

Understanding of materials, tools and processes.

A compassionate and positive attitude to deliver instruction to other students.

InDesign for graphic design, labeling, etc.
