In this Guide, we&#8217;ll take a look at weighted assignment groups, the assignments within those assignment groups, and the integration with Simple Syllabus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>NOTE:<\/strong> All assignments listed in your Canvas Gradebook are listed on your <strong>Assignments<\/strong> index page.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"#assignment-groups\" data-type=\"internal\" data-id=\"#assignment-groups\">Assignment Groups<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#verify-weighting\">Verify Weighting<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#verify-assignments\">Verify Assignments<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#simple-syllabus\">Simple Syllabus<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#additional-resources\">Additional Resources<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"assignment-groups\">Assignment Groups<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In Canvas, you can create Assignment Groups to group all similarly-typed assignments together. Additionally, you can weight those Assignment Groups (see below) for use in your Canvas Gradebook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In your Simple Syllabus document for your course, look at the <strong>Basis for Final Grade<\/strong> section. The names and percentages listed here should match the Assignment Groups names and weighted percentages in Canvas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, you might have three Assignment Groups for your course: <strong>Assignments<\/strong>, <strong>Exams<\/strong>, and <strong>Discussion Topics<\/strong>. By default, every Canvas course has a minimum of one Assignment Group (called <strong>Assignments<\/strong>), but you can re-name all Assignment Groups to meet your course needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"creating-additional-assignment-groups-in-your-canvas-course-48e4ca39-c0f4-40bf-9275-297b6c341d27\">Creating Additional Assignment Groups in Your Canvas Course<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-advgb-infobox advgb-infobox-wrapper has-text-align-center advgb-infobox-e9e3b971-ffb4-46b4-967f-42ad362f1800\"><div class=\"advgb-infobox-wrap\"><div class=\"advgb-infobox-icon-container\"><div class=\"advgb-infobox-icon-inner-container\"><i class=\"material-icons-outlined\">check_box<\/i><\/div><\/div><div class=\"advgb-infobox-textcontent\"><h3 class=\"advgb-infobox-title\">Enable Assignment Group Weighting<\/h3><p class=\"advgb-infobox-text\">These steps assume that the option to <strong>Weight final grade based on assignment groups<\/strong> has been enabled in your course. To verify this, skip to the next section on this page, <a href=\"#verify-weighting\" data-type=\"internal\" data-id=\"#verify-weighting\">Verify Weighting<\/a>. However, we&#8217;ve found that Simple Syllabus synchronizes almost immediately with Canvas.
