This feature allows for more structured participation, ensuring students meet deadlines for each required step in the discussion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Discussion Checkpoints can be used in brand new discussion topics, or it <strong><em>may<\/em><\/strong> be possible to use them in existing discussion topics. There are three areas to fill out:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Points Possible: Reply to Topic<\/strong> (Points possible for the initial reply to topic.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Additional Replies Required<\/strong> (The number of additional replies required must be between 1 and 10.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Points Possible: Additional Replies<\/strong> (Possible points for additional replies.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"336\" height=\"377\" src=\"http:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/ed-tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/53\/2025\/10\/Discussions_CheckpointSettings.png\" alt=\"The &quot;Checkpoint Settings&quot; section of Discussion topics allows an instructor to set the points possible for &quot;Reply to Topic&quot;, &quot;Additional Replies Required&quot;, and the points possible for &quot;Additional Replies&quot;. In the above example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>10 (Points Possible: Reply to Topic) + 5 (Points Possible: Additional Replies) = 15 (Total Points Possible)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"6\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The final section of the Discussion topic details is <strong>Assignment Settings<\/strong>. Notice there are two new fields, <strong>Reply to Topic Due Date<\/strong> and <strong>Required Replies Due Date<\/strong>. (These fields replace the regular <strong>Due Date<\/strong> field had <strong>Assign graded checkpoints<\/strong> not been selected.)
