To prevent ads from displaying, Instructure has released their YouTube Migration tool which will provide a distraction-free and uninterrupted learning experience. YouTube videos are migrated to the Canvas Studio video player interface and placed in a Collection folder within your Canvas Studio Library.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beginning on Friday, October 3, 2025, YouTube videos that have not been migrated to Canvas Studio will display an overlay message similar to:<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"997\" height=\"556\" src=\"http:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/ed-tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/53\/2025\/09\/YouTube_MayDisplayAds.png\" alt=\"A screenshot of an embedded video player within a Canvas course displays the title &quot;Earth Zoom In Realistic Clouds With Alpha Matte&quot;. However, these captions cannot be edited. All YouTube content added on or after January 1, 2023, will have captions carried over into Canvas Studio by September 1, 2025. Content added before January 1, 2023, will display captions by October 31, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With respect to unlisted YouTube videos that are embedded in Canvas courses, captions will not be carried over from YouTube, even if the video later becomes public. A total count of YouTube content displays at the top of the screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The following columns are shown:\n<ol style=\"list-style-type:upper-alpha\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Canvas Resource:<\/strong> A link to the resource in your course. Click on the name of a video to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Edit details<\/strong> of the YouTube video.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Upload<\/strong> captions via a *.vtt or *.srt file, or <strong>create from scratch<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"disabling-the-youtube-migration-tool\">Disabling the YouTube Migration Tool<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>YouTube Migration<\/strong> tool is not visible to students in your left-hand Canvas course navigation menu (even though it does not have the crossed-out eye icon next to it). However, if you do not have YouTube videos in your course, you may not want to see the YouTube Migration link visible in your course. To disable the link in your Canvas course:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click on the <strong>Settings<\/strong> link on the left-hand course navigation menu.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on the <strong>Feature Options<\/strong> tab at the top of the screen.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Look for the <strong>YouTube to Studio content migration<\/strong> row. Click the \u2705 green checkmark, and select Disabled. This will change the icon to a red \u274c. Changes are immediate. There is no <strong>Save<\/strong> button.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You may need to refresh your menu so that the <strong>YouTube Migration<\/strong> course navigation menu link disappears.
