For Summer semester Canvas courses, instructors gain access approximately one (1) month prior to the official start date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table is-style-regular\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><thead><tr><th><\/th><th>Winter 2026 (Start Date: January 12, 2026)<\/th><th>Summer 2026 (Start Date: June 5, 2026)<\/th><th>Fall 2026 (Start Date: September 2026)<\/th><th>Winter 2027 (Start Date: January 2027)<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Canvas<\/strong><\/td><td>Last Week of October 2025<\/td><td>Early May 2026<\/td><td>Last Week of June 2026<\/td><td>Last Week of October 2026<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Simple Syllabus<\/strong><\/td><td>Last Week of October 2025<\/td><td>Early May 2026<\/td><td>Last Week of June 2026<\/td><td>Last Week of October 2026<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Canvas and Simple Syllabus access dates for instructors.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"student-access-to-canvas-courses\">Student Access to Canvas Courses<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Students are enrolled when courses are created.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Unpublished:<\/strong> When a course is unpublished, students will not see the course on their Canvas dashboard. All courses are unpublished by default.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Published:<\/strong> When an instructor publishes a course, students will be able to see it on their <a href=\"https:\/\/community.instructure.com\/en\/kb\/articles\/662809-how-do-i-view-all-my-canvas-courses\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&#8220;All Courses&#8221; page<\/a> (with the <a href=\"https:\/\/community.instructure.com\/en\/kb\/articles\/662810-how-do-i-customize-my-courses-list\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/community.canvaslms.com\/t5\/Canvas-Basics-Guide\/How-do-I-customize-my-Courses-list\/ta-p\/618759\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">option to add it to their dashboard<\/a>). However, if they try to access the course before the first day of class, they will receive a message indicating the course is not yet available. You will not be able to participate in this course until Jun 9 at 12am.\" class=\"wp-image-2752\" srcset=\"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/ed-tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/53\/2025\/04\/CourseHasNotStarted.png 659w, https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/ed-tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/53\/2025\/04\/CourseHasNotStarted-300x41.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Student access to a course will switch to &#8220;view only,&#8221; and move into the &#8220;Past Enrollments&#8221; location of the <strong>Courses<\/strong> &gt;&gt; <strong>All Courses<\/strong> page at the end of the month in which final semester grades are submitted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Fall courses are active for students until the end of December.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Summer courses are active for students until the end of August.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Winter courses are active for students until the end of May.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;View only&#8221; access allows students to view course content, as well as download assignments they previously submitted. They can no longer actively submit or participate in the course.
