Internships are available to BFA students with a junior or senior ranking and MFA students who completed one year of course work\u2013 although it is never too early to begin researching opportunities. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Benefits Students Gain by Participating in an Internship<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Using classroom skills in a real-world employment situation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Learning new skills from professionals in one\u2019s chosen field<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gaining first-hand work experience prior to graduation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Networking with professionals, which may lead to future employment opportunities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Steps to Pursue an Internship for Credit&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Internships for credit are intended to replace a studio or elective course in your major. Course placement will be determined and approved by the department chair.\u00a0 Students should work closely with their Department Chair or faculty and their Academic Advisor to determine which class should be replaced for the internship. The internship needs to replace a required class within the student&#8217;s major department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students may earn 3 or 6 credits for an internship, depending on internship structure and contact hours. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">International Students and Internships\/Curricular Practical Training (CPT)\u00a0<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Additional <a href=\"https:\/\/studyinthestates.dhs.gov\/sevis-help-hub\/student-records\/fm-student-employment\/f-1-curricular-practical-training-cpt\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/studyinthestates.dhs.gov\/sevis-help-hub\/student-records\/fm-student-employment\/f-1-curricular-practical-training-cpt\">US Dept. of Homeland Security regulations<\/a> apply to international students seeking internships\/Curricular Practical Training (CPT).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Office of Partnerships does not advise students on OPT, CPT, or Visa rules and regulations. International students must meet with the Director of Global Engagement to receive approval to proceed before internship paperwork will be initiated. The Office of Global Engagement determines a student&#8217;s eligibility to participate in an internship\/CPT and has precedence over Faculty recommendations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">BFA Requirements:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Student must be a Junior or Senior in studio courses.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Student must meet the College\u2019s Junior Status Policy requirements.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Student interns must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/career-development\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/32\/2020\/07\/2020-07-31-CD-Portfolio-Approval-Form.pdf\"><strong>Portfolio Approval Form<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;signed by Department Chair or full-time faculty member.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All students pursuing an internship must have their portfolio approved by their department chair or full-time faculty member.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> Internship credit can not replace a Liberal Arts required course.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">MFA Requirements:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Complete one year of course work.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Grade Point Average of 3.0 or better.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/career-development\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/32\/2020\/07\/2020-07-31-CD-Portfolio-Approval-Form.pdf\"><strong>Portfolio Approval Form<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;signed by Department Chair or full-time faculty member.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All students pursuing an internship must have their portfolio approved by their department chair or full-time faculty member.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Internship credit can not replace a Liberal Arts required course.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Students may search for internships in the following ways:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Visit CCS <a href=\"https:\/\/collegeforcreativestudies.joinhandshake.com\/login\">Handshake<\/a> to view internships and jobs that have been vetted by the Office of Partnerships&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Job Search sites such as the ones listed in the <em>Additional Resources<\/em> section on the &nbsp;Office of Partnerships departmental page<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Visit websites of companies of interest to research internship opportunities and the application process.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Schedule an appointment with the Office of Partnerships if additional assistance is needed.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Once you have secured your internship location:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Considerations:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For credit internships are only $450 for 3 credits.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A student may take ONE 6-credit internship or TWO 3-credit internships.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The contact hour requirement for a three-credit internship is 135 hours over the course of the semester; six-credit internships require 270 contact hours over the course of the semester.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You must register for your internship when you register for classes. The last day to add a class is the same for internships. Non-credit internships do not require a specific GPA, class standing or a mandated number of contact hours.&nbsp; There is no tuition cost for a non-credit internship and there is no limit on the number of non-credit internship opportunities that a student can take.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students who will be on hiatus or enrolled less than 6 credits during their internship should contact the Financial Aid Office in order to fully understand any financial implications.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Internship Program allows qualified students to earn academic credit while gaining first-hand experience in their chosen fields.
