RGB values must be ( 35,31,32 )<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Be\n careful to not have any extra lines or points that you do not want the \nlaser to engrave. Other than that, all it takes is a regular Illustrator\n file!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-advgb-accordion-item advgb-accordion-item\" style=\"margin-bottom:15px\"><div class=\"advgb-accordion-header\" style=\"background-color:#000;color:#eee;border-style:solid;border-width:0px;border-radius:2px\"><span class=\"advgb-accordion-header-icon\"><svg fill=\"#fff\" xmlns=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/2000\/svg\" width=\"24\" height=\"24\" viewBox=\"0 0 24 24\"><path fill=\"none\" d=\"M0,0h24v24H0V0z\"><\/path><path d=\"M12,5.83L15.17,9l1.41-1.41L12,3L7.41,7.59L8.83,9L12,5.83z M12,18.17L8.83,15l-1.41,1.41L12,21l4.59-4.59L15.17,15 L12,18.17z\"><\/path><\/svg><\/span>Using the Laser Cutter Safely<\/div><div class=\"advgb-accordion-body\" style=\"border-style:solid !important;border-width:0px !important;border-color:undefined !important;border-top:none !important;border-radius:2px !important\">\n<p>The laser cutter is a powerful tool that allows you to take digital files and make them into tangible objects.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before we begin, there is a bit of information to read through, to insure your safety and the safety&nbsp;of&nbsp;the equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Laser Usage Guide can be found on the Campus Offices Acadmic Facilities page, <strong>read through this entire guide:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>from the main Access Manager, click on the <em>Campus Offices<\/em> link<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>click on\u00a0<em>Academic Facilities<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>scroll down and find\u00a0<em>CCS Taubman RP Modelshop Laser Cutter Usage Guide\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also follow this link :&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/academic-facilities\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2020\/10\/2018-1-29-AF-CCS-Taubman-RP-Model-Shop-Laser-Usage-Guide.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"><em>CCS&nbsp;Taubman&nbsp;RP&nbsp;Modelshop&nbsp;Laser Cutter Usage Guide<\/em> <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are a couple of highlights to remember:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Lasers are dangerous\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Never leave the laser cutter <strong>unattended<\/strong> while it is operating.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Always use the <strong>exhaust\u00a0<\/strong>system<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Know what to do in case of a <strong>fire<\/strong> inside the machine!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Do Not stare<\/strong> at the laser light<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Laser room computer is <strong>not a workstation<\/strong>. Have your files ready to go when you arrive.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Clean up your mess.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You will also find a list of acceptable materials to use in the laser cutter.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Always ask questions, if you are unsure of anything involving using the laser cutter.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>IN CASE OF A FIRE INSIDE THE MACHINE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You might see a small flame inside the laser cutter on occasion, but if something catches fire, you must address it immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I. Hit the Emergency Stop<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Always do this FIRST, in an emergency. &nbsp;This will&nbsp;immediately&nbsp;cut power to the laser cutter and stop it. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" src=\"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/academic-facilities\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2020\/01\/EmergStop.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-217\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>II. Use the spray bottle<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If it is a small fire, open the lid and use the spray bottle to extinguish&nbsp;the fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>III. TURN ON THE LASER CUTTER<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Turning on the FORD CAMPUS laser cutter:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I.<\/strong> Open the air line by turning the handle so it is parallel&nbsp;to the pipe<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" src=\"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/academic-facilities\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2020\/01\/fopenair1.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-224\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>II.&nbsp;<\/strong>Switch on the air compressor so that the green switch lights up<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" src=\"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/academic-facilities\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2020\/01\/fcompressoron.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-225\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>III.&nbsp;<\/strong>Turn on the Laser Cutter<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" src=\"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/academic-facilities\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2020\/01\/flaserOn2.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-226\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>IV.&nbsp;<\/strong>Log into the computer with your CCS log in<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Turning on the TAUBMAN CAMPUS laser Cutter<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I.&nbsp;<\/strong>Open the air line by turning the handle so it is parallel to the pipe<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" src=\"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/academic-facilities\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2020\/01\/TonAir1.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-228\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>II.&nbsp;<\/strong>Turn on the yellow switch to power up the ventilation&nbsp;unit and flip the big switch to turn on power to the laser cutter<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" src=\"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/academic-facilities\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2020\/01\/Ton1.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-227\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>III.<\/strong> Turn on the laser cutter<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" src=\"http:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/academic-facilities\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2020\/01\/flaserOn2.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-226\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>IV.&nbsp;<\/strong>Log into the computer with the log in that is displayed on the monitor<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. PREPARE YOUR MATERIAL<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I. Check to make sure that the material you are&nbsp;using is an approved material<\/strong>\n and not on the DO NOT USE materials list (see below, or the sign on the\n wall). Using an unapproved material results in serious health and \nsafety&nbsp;risks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>II.&nbsp;<\/strong>Use the digital calipers or micrometer to<strong> accurately measure the thickness of your material<\/strong>. This is essential in&nbsp;order for&nbsp;the laser cutter to position itself to the correct height for your material.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" src=\"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/academic-facilities\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2020\/01\/caliper1.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-229\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" src=\"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/academic-facilities\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2020\/01\/micromete1.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-230\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>III. Write down the thickness<\/strong> to 3 decimal places, for later use. ex 0.934<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>IV. Open the laser cutter bed.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" src=\"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/academic-facilities\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2020\/01\/open1.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-231\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>V. Place your material&nbsp;<\/strong>so\n that it lines up with the corner of the laser bed. If you are cutting \nall the way to the edge or your material, you will have to leave some \nspace between the edge of the bed and your material.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" src=\"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/academic-facilities\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2020\/01\/position1.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-232\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>VI. PREPARE YOUR FILE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your file should be ready to go,&nbsp;but there are&nbsp;some steps to&nbsp; ensure your file is set up correctly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I. Copy your file<\/strong> from your USB drive to the Start Here folder on the computer.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/academic-facilities\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2020\/01\/dragToFOlder.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-234\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>II. Open your file<\/strong> in Adobe Illustrator<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/academic-facilities\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2020\/01\/openfile1.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-235\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>III. Select all of your paths (&nbsp;Ctrl+a ), and Copy ( Ctrl+ c ) them<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/academic-facilities\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2020\/01\/copyFile.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-236\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>IV. Open the Laser Template&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>file&nbsp;<\/strong> found on the desktop, and delete anything that is left in the&nbsp;file.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/academic-facilities\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2020\/01\/opentemplate1.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-237\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>V. Paste your paths<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;( Ctrl&nbsp;+v )&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong>into the template.&nbsp;And <strong>position your paths.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/academic-facilities\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2020\/01\/pasteandposition1.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-238\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong> The&nbsp;artboard&nbsp;on\n this template file represents the entire laser bed, so the location of \nyour paths has to match up with the location of your material on the \nlaser bed. So if your material is in the upper left corner, then your \npaths need to also be in the upper left corner.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>VI. PRINTING YOUR FILE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once your file is set up, the laser cutter and ventilation are turned on, and you&#8217;ve&nbsp;prepped your material, it is time to print.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I. Go to File &#8211; &gt; Print&nbsp;<\/strong>and&nbsp;&nbsp;<strong>c<\/strong><strong>lick Print&nbsp;<\/strong>on the next dialog box<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/academic-facilities\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2020\/01\/print1.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-240\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>II. Open&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>the UCP program<\/strong> on the desktop. Click Settings&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>and select the materials tab&nbsp;<\/strong>so that we can set up the correct parameters for the laser cutter<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/academic-facilities\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2020\/01\/settings1.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-242\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>IV. Choose your material<\/strong> from the materials list. This sets up the laser with the proper speed and intensity for the material that you wish to cut.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/academic-facilities\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2020\/01\/material1.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-243\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>V. Input the thickness<\/strong> of your material, that you wrote down before<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/academic-facilities\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2020\/01\/width1.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-244\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>VI. Double check<\/strong> that your material on the bed lines up with your paths on the UPC program<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>VIII. REMOVING YOUR PRINT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>You must remain in the room, with the door&nbsp;open, while the laser cutter is operating.&nbsp; DO NOT stare at the laser!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" src=\"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/academic-facilities\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2020\/01\/lasering1.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-247\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Once the laser cutter has finished<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Wait for any smoke to clear<\/strong> from the laser bed<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Open the laser cutter&nbsp;<\/strong>and&nbsp;<strong>remove your material<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" src=\"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/academic-facilities\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2020\/01\/removeProd1.gif\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-248\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>Clean up<\/strong> any little pieces of your material that are left on the bed. You can use the shop vac&nbsp;for little pieces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Throw away any small scraps and take large scraps with you.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>6. SHUTTING DOWN<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before&nbsp;you leave the laser cutter, you must shut down everything that you turned on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Turning off the FORD CAMPUS laser cutter:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I. <\/strong>Close the air line by turning the handle so it is perpendicular to the pipe<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter
