Poor surface development from incorporating fillets and radiuses are the main cause for gaps when attempting to stitch files.<\/li><li>When creating files (parts that will be assembled) remember to include design clearances. If you create your files line for line they will not fit together. For items that will require painting about .010-.012\u201d per side should be sufficient. If pieces will be assembled with light sanding only approximately .005-.008\u201d design clearance will be required.<\/li><li>When creating part geometry small details will be filled during painting. Design these areas to allow for paint buildup to maintain the desired finished appearance. In other words, make them deeper.<\/li><li>Same folder\/file naming conventions as rapid prototyping.<\/li><li>All extra geometry must be removed (double surfaces, construction<br> geometry and curves unless they are cut lines)<\/li><li>Organize file \u2013 All surface data must reside on one or more layers, cut<br> lines must be on one separate layer (no surface data).<\/li><li>Many files contain blanked entities that are not required, delete all of this geometry to reduce file size thus reducing tool path generation <g class=\"gr_ gr_56 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace\" id=\"56\" data-gr-id=\"56\">time<\/g><\/li><li><g class=\"gr_ gr_56 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace\" id=\"56\" data-gr-id=\"56\">Make<\/g> sure the scale of your file is correct!<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong> All <\/strong><g class=\"gr_ gr_28 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Style multiReplace\" id=\"28\" data-gr-id=\"28\"><strong>*** .<\/strong><\/g><strong>IGES files must contain the <\/strong><g class=\"gr_ gr_25 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar multiReplace\" id=\"25\" data-gr-id=\"25\"><strong>students<\/strong><\/g><strong> name and be located within a folder (students first and last name) to be accepted for CNC machining.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> File structure\/name conventions \u2013 example for submitting CNC.IGES<br> prototype file.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong> Example:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong> Create Folder: <\/strong>student\u2019s first and last name \u2013 Trans\/Prod\/ID\/ etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong> Create IGES file:<\/strong> John-Doe-car,cellphone,boat,ect..IGES<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><strong> <\/strong><g class=\"gr_ gr_6 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace\" id=\"6\" data-gr-id=\"6\"><strong>I<\/strong><\/g><strong>GES<\/strong><g class=\"gr_ gr_6 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace\" id=\"6\" data-gr-id=\"6\"><strong> files must be in <\/strong><g class=\"gr_ gr_7 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar only-ins doubleReplace replaceWithoutSep\" id=\"7\" data-gr-id=\"7\"><strong>created<\/strong><\/g><strong> folder as stated. After students full first and last name <\/strong><g class=\"gr_ gr_15 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar multiReplace\" id=\"15\" data-gr-id=\"15\"><strong>keep<\/strong><\/g><strong> filenames as short as possible.<\/strong><\/g><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Saving an IGES File in Alias for CNC Machining<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>MAKE SURE MODEL IS SCALED CORRECTLY<\/li><li>Select all<\/li><li>File \u2013 Export \u2013 Active as (click square icon) \u2013 File formats \u2013<br> Select IGES<\/li><li>Set output units to whatever units you built the model in (i.e. if<br> you built model in inches, set to inches etc.)<\/li><li>Click next, save where you want it.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"> Saving an IGES File in Rhino for CNC Machining<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li> Set file tolerances prior to building model<\/li><li> Set file tolerances under the UNITS settings:<ul><li> Absolute .001 units<\/li><li> Relative .01 percentage<\/li><li> Angle .1 degree<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li> Select object<\/li><li> Save as \u2013 IGES (*.igs)<\/li><li> IGES Export Options &#8211; Detailed controls<\/li><li> Set IGES type to \u2013 Mastercam<\/li><li> Double Check IGES tolerance is set to .001<\/li><li> Click OK<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"> Finishing of CNC Machined Files<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>For parts produced from the CNC machine &#8211; light cleanup and<br> sanding will need to be performed before any primer is applied.<\/li><li>Files milled using 20lb. foam will require at least two coats of<br> primer before painting.<\/li><\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Build all files to theoreticals unless you are confident in your modeling skills.
