These guidelines were developed by Paul Snyder in consultation with the other Chairs and the greater CCS institutional leadership, and should be followed in tandem with the <a href=\"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/academic-affairs\/artificial-intelligence-institutional-statement\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"2915\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CCS Institutional AI Statement<\/a>. If faculty or students have questions about the implementation of these guidelines in the classroom, they should <a href=\"https:\/\/calendly.com\/psnyder-transpo_chairperson\/30min\">contact Paul Snyder .<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the field of Transportation Design AI is currently being utilized to some degree for research, concept-document creation, and to a lesser extent- design process. Based on that usage, concerns are being brought forward related to students forgoing the rigor and study the TD department is internationally recognized for. It is assumed that in the next five years, AI systems will impact the TD discipline further and the guidelines offered below allow for applicable student preparation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In academic year \u201825-\u201926 a new course in AI was added to the curriculum and is required for students with senior status only as a prerequisite. This is to ensure that CCS Transportation Design graduates have experienced all the traditional learnings and preparations that are required in the field and remain critical for employment in the field, but are also familiar with the latest technologies and processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Traditional skill development will continue to be the focus for Transportation Design<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>AI systems may be used in the classroom at the Junior and Senior class levels only on very limited basis. Until students are registered for Viscom-VI (DTR-403) the only accepted AI usage is in research, concept creation, storytelling and image\/mood boards.<br><br>Unless specifically approved by the instructor in writing, in conjunction with department guidelines, AI system results are not to be used for the \u201cdesign creation process\u201d e.g. ideation, sketching, rendering, digital modeling etc. but may be used for rendering backgrounds, storyboards and animations of student created designs.<br><br>Students must cite the systems and document the relevant prompts utilized in their process and research in the final assignment outcomes.<br><br>Unless specifically approved by the instructor in writing, in conjunction with department guidelines, it is prohibited to use the names of artists\/designers, companies, or brands within the prompts to maintain the artistic integrity of those involved.<br><br>While equity to access for all software, including AI systems, is a priority of the department, many AI platforms do not yet offer institutional subscriptions. Therefore, in this case students are responsible for their own subscriptions when necessary. The department views this similarly to a required textbook that the student would be required to purchase.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Should a faculty wish to include AI system consideration and usage into other courses, they must receive permission from the Chair, Paul Snyder<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>AI use within the curriculum will abide by the guidelines offered in the CCS Institutional AI Statement.<br><br>Should the faculty member wish to offer an exception to the guidelines, that must be stated in writing and approved by the Chair, Paul Snyder<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pedagogical methodologies in all courses within Transportation Design will place greater emphasis on active learning and process work to ensure students can evidence their efforts within assigned projects.<br><br>Towards that end, students should be prepared to show their various Adobe process layers, and digital model files saved in early mid and later stages of development.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/campus.collegeforcreativestudies.edu\/policy\/academic-honesty-plagiarism\/\" target=\"_blank\">CCS Academic Integrity Policy<\/a> has been revised to include AI-related concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As AI technology is evolving, these, and the institution\u2019s, guidelines will change as context requires. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The below guidelines for Transportation Design outline Artificial Intelligence (AI) usage in the classroom for the 2026\/2027 academic year.
